79 K5 power rear window

The power rear window in my 79 full size blazer is supposed to raise/lower with the key switch on the back of the tailgater but doesn't work. I pulled the tailgate apart (no small feat!) only to find some plastic switch looking thing that was burned pretty bad and the 3 wires to it taped over by a previous owner. I need to find the switch that attaches to the inside of the tailgate key switch so I can replace and rewire it so the rear window will operate from outside. Does anyone have any experience with this switch? Where can I get one? What is it called? How many years was it available? Thanks.

Well it took some doing but I got mine figured out. Got no help from the forum so I did it myself. I hoped that the switch I needed was used for many more years and still be available from the dealership. It was tough and took 3 tries to get it but it worked. The key switch itself had a built-in electric switch and cost $50!! I got it wholesale for $36. My original plug that mounts to the backof the key switch was toast so I had to improvise. I pulled the entire regulator out to access the back of the key switch. This is probably not necessary if the wires and plug are still attached to the key switch. Just pull the 2 nuts that hold the chrome bezel the key switch is mounted into and pull the wires thru the hole. While I had my regulator out I cleaned off all the old grease and put on fresh white lithium. Wired the new key switch. Installed everything and works like a champ. E mail me if you have any questions or need any help.

Brand new to this forum. Just got an '84 full size Blazer with a "few" issues including the tailgate.
Does anyone know of a source of a new motor for the tailgate power window? Autozone says yes on the internet and no when the store tries to order it.
Most other sources I've accessed only list the door window lift motors (l/r are same). My motor is near death. Works briefly then seems to overheat. Have had to bypass the interlock inside driver side of tailgate, so it'll now try to operate when open. (good way to break glass if you forget)
Incidentally, window can be made to go up or down by disconnecting the drive cable from the motor and turning the cable manually--I use a small vise-grip. The cable is much like a short speedometer cable.
any help on tailgate windows would be appreciated, including making the interlock (safety switch) work. Thanks CB

Don't know where to get the motor, but the cable is still available from Chevrolet. It took the VIN from my '90 Blazer for the parts guy to find it. About $45.
If you have a local automotive alternator repair shop available, you might ask them about rebuilding yours. As long as it still works, it should be rebuildable.

This may help, (no i dont work for them), but i have found MANY parts for my 82 blazer through LMC truck (lmctruck.com) You can damn near rebuild the whole truck with it! Good luck

I'm glad you said something about the lmc parts catalog, the online store didn't seem to have much for my '89 but i also ordered the free catalog hoping to find a few more parts. I would like to find someone that sells replacement panels for rusted items like rocker's and such.

Yeh if you own a s10 blazer get the s10 pickup guide as well. That is a great catalog a little high on shipping but you can not go wrong because they have the parts
