So I was reading some Evo and Sti forums and how the Z can't hang with these cars. Lets look at some numbers.

350 - 3.5 L 6 cyl. - 287 HP - 274 TQ - RWD - 3188 lbs
Evo - 2.0 L 4 cyl. - 271 HP - 273 TQ - AWD - 3263 lbs
STi - 2.5 L 4 cyl. - 300 HP - 300 TQ - AWD - 3263 lbs

Very close in horsepower and torque.

Car : 0-60 : 1/4 : Forced Induction
350 - 5.4 : 14.1 : N/A (Car and Driver numbers)
Evo - 5.0 : 13.8 : Single Turbo, Intercooled (Mitsubishi's numbers)
STi - 4.8 : 13.4 : Single Turbo, Intercooled (Subaru's numbers)

Car : Car n Driver Skidpad : Motortrend Slalom
350 - .88g - 67.8 mph
Evo - .90g - 71.4 mph
STi - .90g - 69.1 mph

Hmm, seeing how the STi and Evo are both turbocharged and intercooled, I think I see why they would be quicker in the 1/4. The STi and Evo both have the AWD advantage on the twisties. The z33 has sooo much potential though. When there will be a day when I can save up to fit a t72 turbo in my Z, I would kill mostly any evo and sti on the road, with my future Tein coilovers of course.

I like the 350Z over the other two because you can't throw the rear out on a 4WD platform as easily as you can the Z. Also the Evo reminds me of that cheap ass Lancer with a whole bunch of aftermarket mods thrown into it and its just not working for me. The STi is a killer car, but the four doors and four wheel drive don't appeal to me.

All I can say is don't let Nissan ever get the desire to Rally. Awd and turbocharged vehicles? I do believe Nissan has had some experience in that department.

Besides I don't believe that the 350Z is even designed to compete with those other two. The design of the car itself should reveal that. The 350Z is a brand-new vehicle from the ground up while the WRX STI and the EVO have been around for years in various forms all over the world, except here. I don't think that Nissan even considered those others to even be compared to the Z.

early 90's pulsar, of course not a us-spec it was J-spec. the pulsar in japan at that time had a trim level offering awd and a turbocharged egine making dont member exactly but it was some like 220.

The Sunny, right? Yeah, I'm familiar with them and their drivetrain.
More specifically though I was referring to Skylines. The AWD and turbocharged variety in particular. If they were still in high production and easily/cheaply serviceable like the other rally competitors, I'm sure the Skylines would show well. My comment from earlier was meant kinda sarcastically. Seeing as the Skyline GTR dominated in nearly every race that it was entered in, I could easily see it being very competetive in rally racing as well.

I dunno where you got those stats from, but the eVO runs 13.4s in 1/4 and STi runs 13.2s. The EVO 8 can als0 slalom @ 75.x mph[not sure on STi]. Als0 the 350z has been having trouble being turbo'd because of its high compression. The greddy TT kit which hasnt been released yet they've only got running at about 6-7psi of boost, while the turbos are capable of much higher, then engine is holding it back. turbo kit plus alll the internal engine mods to support high boost will run you about 10-15k.......while you can make yourself an 11 second EVO pretty easily and for about 5k in mods, including the HKS twin plate clutch.
