funny thing is, if you look at the motor trend drawing, it looks like it has both rear and side exhaust. 4 mufflers? must be a big ass engine!!

The drawings are real.
The pics are actually Cougars with a Mustang front end/rearend.
I'm guessing they are either photoshopped or just cars that Ford is using to see what kinda exterior work they can use. Remember, they make DOZENs of small models and use hundreds of different test vehicles.

you can tell that last photo is altered. just look at the scoop in the doors and how it doesn't extend into the rear quarter. that whole line right thre looks kinda fishy. even the rear bumper doesn't look like a stang should.

Hey guys are these actually going to be fast instead of mediocre? Really, when was the last time a stock mustang could keep pace with an F-Body? Now that the F-Bodies are gone the stangs will probably be slower, but it will be the only cheap RWD american sports car. What a joke.

Stock vs Stock the 2001 Cobra is a HINT slower then the 2001 LS1 F-Body.
As I've said earlier, my car ran a 12.907@108 BONE STOCK...
That's a few tenths better then any stock Cobra I've ever seen.
However, now that the F-Bodies are leaving, Ford's not going to lower performance simply because they are the only one's in their class, they're going to try to go after Chevy's Corvette.
Although I think they can get close, I don't think they'll pull it out unless they up their displacement. Even so, Chevy plans on going with either a bigger motor, 5.7L DOHC or 5.7L "2 in the Valley" setup or quite possibly a bigger DOHC motor...

here is some info on the 2003 cobra mustang
The Dearborn Assembly Plant (DAP) today began production of four 2003 Mustang Cobra coupes and one convertible. The convertible is slated to appear at the Cobra's introduction in Chicago this February.
The 2003 Cobras will feature a unique dual scooped hood and a unique Cobra only deck lid.
Big News? Cobra fans will get their wish: A six speed manual transmission. More details coming.

The new CObra is gonna get around 350, not 390hp, because it's slated to go head to head with the base Corvette. Plus, it is possible that the new Cobra will be the launch for new technology in the Ford line, for example onboard e-mail.:bandit:

actually cpthrash that hp is correct because motor trend has tested it and blue oval news has tested it and they say it is 390hp and also i sent an e-mail to ford and asked them and they said it will have 390 hp

thats because it will have a blower. Give one to the vette and see what happens. Chevy is not gonna lay down with the corvette either.
the new Z06 has 405 hp n/a. And theres talk of 450 plus for the next Z06, to go after the viper i suppose

The '03 ZO6 is getting 425hp now.
They are using a slightly better head design.
I'll bet some guys will run 11's right out of the box.
Come '04 and the intro of the C6, the base Corvette will get somewhere around 405hp. With the ZO6 getting around 450. Of course, there's also talk of a "big block" version that will make near 500hp!

I agree that thing has been hit with the Mercury Cougar ugly stick. But I remember when the SN95 first came out we where not pleased and the same thing goes for the current body style. I'll wait to see what rolls out of Dearborn before passing final judgement. If Billy fails me, it's time to buy that teal '93 Cobra...

Ford did whack it with an ugly stick, plus ive heard it will have less HP than the terminator. What kinda crap is that?
If Ford does plan to run with the vette, they need to up the cubes cause as far as i see it their going nowhere.
It bothers me to the fact that they have to supercharge to make 390..
All a chevy guy has to do is throw a few bolt ons and they are already beating the cobra.
I love ford cars and my cobra but they still havent done right in my eyes when it comes to making a modern muscle car.
cause as long as ford slacks,we the buyers have to spend just that much more money to keep up with the competition.
Ford needed to put the new roush 347 in the cobra,430Hp before charging...thats muslce that even vette owners would fear.
With the name Cobra..it should be feared
Sorry but i had to spout.:)

The 2004 Mustang is awesome, plus Ford is planning on bring back the 5.0 based on the 4.6. Man that is going to be one heavy engine.
I see a lot of you guys talk about factory comparisons, WHY? There are aftermarket parts for cars, thats how I made my car kind of fast. If I remember correctly the aftermarket parts for the LS1 are very pricey, but then again so are the ones for 4.6, that why I run the ol' 302.

I'd like to see them go back to the 302. The 4.6 is a strong running engine, and has the potential to make alot of power, but sometimes I still miss the trusy old 5.0...

the new mustang will most likely look like the automobile's pic. ford said they were going with the 69 look. i have heard rumors about a 5.0 and hopefully they are true(i miss them). i have also heard rumors about ford making smaller displacement engines. muscle mustangs and fast fords said ford will keep thae 4.6(gt) im gonna see about the possible 5.0(cobra). as for people on rice burners saying they beat a mustang, they r just trying to say that their cars are as fast as mustangs.i have a freind who has a civic,a 93 i think, he thinks he can beat anything. i have a 1990 f-150 with a 351 no mods and i can still beat his little bitch ass:sun: :flipa:

I CANT BELIEVE FORD FOR DOING THIS
Ford Leaning Away From DEW Chassis For 2005 Mustang
03 July 2002. Dearborn, Michigan.
Robert Lane
It has been highly anticipated that Ford's next generation Mustang will utilize a DEW98 (Lincoln LS, T-Bird) variant chassis. While that rumor has been circulating for years, reliable sources on Team Mustang told BlueOvalNews that a new hybrid chassis may almost certainly be used instead. It's been well known around Dearborn that the DEW-lite program has been under intense scrutiny from Ford management. Sources at Team Mustang pointed to aggressive cost cutting at Ford that has sparked the desire to find a more suitable chassis.
The hybrid chassis is from the C170 program - otherwise known as the Ford Focus. Sources at Roush have also confirmed that they are testing a C170 hybrid chassis for the next generation Mustang. It wouldn't be the first time that Ford has used a front wheel drive platform for a rear wheel drive application - the new Jaguar X-Type currently uses one. Unlike the X-Type, the next generation Mustang is not currently being considered for an all wheel drive model though.
Team Mustang sources claim that the next generation Mustang will continue to be available in both solid and IRS rear axle versions. Contacts at Roush insist that they have only tested 2005 IRS Mustangs only.

I was all set to buy the new Cobra SVT until I heard talk of a retro mustang coming in 2004. I have seen the drawings posted, however I am not impressed. I prefer the shorter frame. Are there any other "real" pictures out there in regards to the new body style supposedly being released in 2004/2005?
Plus, $35,000-$40,000 is a lot to spend on a muscle car so I want to make it a good one. Camaro's have just looked putrid for years; same goes for the Firebird.
What would you buy if you were going to spend that kind of money?

I think Ford is really over doing it with all these bullshit anniversary models-----the only I have liked to date is the Bullit mustang------the Mach 1 is absolutely, without a doubt---very undistinguished. It has the same fricken motor as a 99 & 01 Cobra-----I think Ford just wants to reinvent every damn car they ever made------to swallow the pockets of their faithful. The 03 Cobra------is to me-------the most breathtaking mustang ever designed-------and they want to fricken redesign that lol-----They don't know what the F$@K they're doing over there-------how in the hell can they possibly make a cobra look better than the 03. They should redesign the v-6 and the GT-------but leave the 03 alone-----why f&!K with genius----the marketing fools at Ford should be all slapped in the face----with their urges to tamper with the winning SN body.

A stock warranty supercharger-----I'm jealous-----I have a 10.5 pound kit on my cobra-----but it doesn't have the great torque curve of the Eaton---its bullshit what Ford did----but thats business----SVT advertising should have hinted strongly in 2001 that a supercharger 'might' be on its way-----they fucked every 01 owner over-----thats a no no in my book-----had I known of the impending supercharger------I sure would have waited-----Fuck YOU FORD:finger:

I like the ideas that ford has. They just need to be careful. Chevy tried to bring back the impala and the malibu, but they made them into pussy front wheel drive grandma cars. I like the Mach I. It is the only mustang in 03 to have several unique features such as paint, interior, wheels, hood, and engine. They also made it faster than the GT. The Mach I is an upgrade from a GT. That is how it should be, and thats how they did it. As long as they keep their head out of their ass.

You would think ford would put more thought into their designs instead of just putting some ugly vehicle out. The backend is hideous, th front end is ok, but a little dull. But that's just my opinion.
