leaky clutch

I have a 87 Toyo pick up and have had a slightly leak around my clutch pedal. I had this problem for about 9 years and ignored it and added brake fluid about once every 2 months.

How much do you think this will cost to fix?

hey taurus blues, if you have any kind of mechanical experience it's about one of the easier things to do! you just need to change out your clutch master cylinder. the cylinder itself only costs about $35-$40. chances are it'll be rebuilt but that's ok but don't let them try and sell you a slave cylinder cuz that's the smaller one that sits under the truck on the passenger side of the transmission. you might want to check it out though just to ensure it's not leaking. if you'll have to pay a mechanic then i'd guess it'll cost around $200 since most are pretty chickensh*t!! good luck! i should mention that if you do install it yourself you'll have to bleed it once you get it installed and filled with fluid. it's helpfull to have someone else so someone can push in the clutch pedal and hold it while the other turns out the little bleeding nipple on the slave cylinder about 1 full revolution and when pure fluid starts running out with no spitting or sputtering from trapped air then close it tightly and then you can release the pedal. lastly top off your fluid! some people will tell you when you change out a clutch cylinder you should always do the same with the slave cylinder but i've changed out my main cylinder about 4 years ago but the original '88 slave cyl is still dry. it's just a way parts stores try and get more money from you. again good luck!
