I think the front two speakers are 4" ???.... Now what about the rear two? The grill looks smaller than the front two. Are they 4" also, or are they 3.5" ??? I plan on upgrading all four speakers and want to keep the same sizing...can somebody confirm this? Please help a fellow mk1 out.

The fronts are 4". The rears are a factory odd size. I replaced mine with 3.5" and that requires the re-drilling of one hole. Some 4" can be squeezed in but you have to be careful of mounting depth.

The grills themself does not remove, rather the whole entire rear window trim has to be remove. It easy, about 6 screws.
On the new speakers be sure that the mounting tabs are metal, not plastic. Because it is a corner mount, the tabs need to be bent slightly but it will crack plastic tabs.

Thank you, but your chart makes no reference to MR2's

I have an '89 N/A. I recently placed 6 1/2" Alpine components (SPR-176R) in my doors (slightly forward and beneath the window crank). This location required about a 1 1/2-2" build-out to clear the door rod (moves when door opens/closes; no mods to the door pockets necessary). I think the speakers could have been placed in doors without such a large build-out if installer had paid attention to the door rod; this may require door pocket mods. I am not sure if electric windows cause a problem.

My Sub is in an enclosed truck box with JL 8"w3 behind the passenger seat.

Deck is Alpine CDA-7894 powered by Alpine MRV-F450 (using only 3-channels, mounted in front trunk). The system is slammin'. I couldn't be happier... (Unless I could find a way to reduce external noise- yes, using CarMat-type of product throughout.)

Good luck!

I just put in a sound system in my 91 Mr2, and the front are 6 1/2 inches and the rears are I think 3 1/2 or 4 inches. You need to find thinner speakers to fit right because the Mr2 is a smaller car. I have thin Boston Acoutstic 2-ways in the front and they fit perfectly, and Memphis and Alpine sell ones that will fit in the back.
