problem with 97 blazers 4wd PLZ HELP

couple months ago i got a 97 blazer..when i use the 4wd, after a 20 minute ride or so, the front wheels, or so it seems the wheels, start to smoke and smell real stong...like i said only does it when in 4wd, 2wd is fine...im thinking the guy before me never used it, and over the years it just became to tight and stiff, any advice, opinions, or suggestions, dads friend is mechanic so hell check it out, but im hoping its just from no use over the years and it can lubed or something and be fine...

well not that it seems anyone cares, but its nothing big, just burning rubber of the tires..just grips to well, even wet it grips to well, 4wd is for snow only i guess...

I have a 97 blazer that the actuator motor [i guess that's the official name] seems to transfer back and forth form 2 wheel to 4 wheel automatically. I'd like to be able to have control over this feature. any hints.?? thanks.

I've heard that the actuator motors go bad!! I've also heard that disconnecting battery to reset 4wd control unit helps, it's only hearsay, so take it for what it's worth!!!!!

did you read the owners manual? its 4WD not AWD, thus the 4WD should not be used in anything but mud, snow, sand, gravel.....etc.

simple 4WD systems such as these, dont have a center differential and rely on wheel slip to compensate for different wheel speeds between the front and back wheels especially when turning.

operating in 4WD on pavement will prematurely wear and damage parts of the system.
