I have a 1993 Dodge Caravan 3.3L V-6 that will not start. You turn the key and nothing happens except that the dash lights come on. No clicking from the starter no turning over no nothing. Does anyone know what can be the problem??
Also I have a problem with the gear shifter. It's always shifted very hard, and recently the cable broke where the plastic ring is connected to the trannie bracket. How do I replace the cable or is there an easy fix for where the ring connects??
Thanks for taking the time to help.

Do you have power to the van..? (lights work?) If so, do they dim when you try to start it?

There is plenty of power. Headlights and interior lights all work fine. Even when hooking up a jump pack for extra power it still does nothing when you turn it over.

From your post sounds like the engine doesn't try to even turn over.
I would suspect the Neutral Saftey Switch/Backup Switch. This sensor only lets the car start in Park or Neutral.
A good check would be to put the key in the ON position and put the vehicle in Reverse. Have someone check to see if the reverse lights come on.
Put the van in park and try to rock it. If the sensor isn't totally gone this may let it start.

Check the ASD relay, located near the left front strut tower to see if it clicks as you try to start the vehicle. If it clicks, then check the power at the trigger wire of the starter with the ignition in the crank position. If there is power there, then it is a starter that you need. Replace it.
Good Luck.

1993 Dodge Caravan: Car cranks, fires off, then dies. ??? Any suggestions as to what may cause this?

kellysmopar, you said that the cable broke, but are you able to shift it without the cable? if the cable broke when it wasn't perfectly in park or neutral, then it will not crank for you, like ultraspaceman said.
