Check Engine Light Stays On

The Check Engine Light in my 95 Ford Ranger stays on while driving. I have taken it to the Ford dealer several times but they can't seem to determine just what is failing and thankfully they are not just replacing parts.

The diagnostic reader is geting a P133 and P153 code indicating "fuel control system fault" on BOTH sides of the V6 3.OL engine. According to the book, both Oxygen Sensors on the exhaust manifold are faulty. The Ford mechanic says that both Oxygen systems don't go bad at the same time. I certainly don't want to pay the freight of replaceing them if this is not the problem.

Anyone have an idea of what might be wrong? Does this occur in other Ford Rangers?

how many miles? if the error is the O2 sensors, then that might be it. replace both O2 sensors, about $42-$50/each, Bosch from Auto Zone. make sure u disconnect the batt. on the install, and then reset the eec. good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions on parts. I have 87,000 miles. Do O2 sensors wear out at a certain mileage? If so, about when?

Final Follow-up report: Well, after a lot of troubleshooting I found that that BOTH oxygen sensors on the manifold were defective. I didn't think that both would show up defective at the same time but after replacing both the check engine light is now sleeping (out) after being on for two years.

A single tank of the wrong fuel will kill the O2 sensors, all at once. It can and does happen.

I was going to suggest an intake leak as an alternative, but it's fixed now.

I just replaced all 3 02 sensors on my 95 3.0 There's 1 more past the cat.
It helped my gas milage & performance tremendously.I've heard now to replace them every 50-60 thousand miles or with tuneup.Next be on the look out for your CEL to give you a P401 code, that is EGR flow insuffient.
90% of the time its the DPFE sensor(Differintal pressure flow EGR sensor)it's the pressure sensor for the EGR vave.Good Luck
