Hello,

I have a 1992 Astro with 168k and have started having problems with the cruse control. I can set it and for a few minutes it will hold the speed just fine. But then the van will slow down, level road or going up a hill doesn’t matter. Any advice is welcome.

thanks

I had this same problem on my 94 astro, and a buddy of mine had it on his 93 astro.

The cruise servo is leaking/failed. The servo is the part on or near the carb or fuel injector that has the rubber bellow. I picked one up at the junk yard for $25 and it worked like a charm. The dealer tried to ripe me off for $350 for a new servo.

I also disassembled my old failed servo and just wiped it off, reassembled and then my buddy put it on his van. It worked great for him.

What ever the dealership tells you, it is not the indicator arm. They want to skin you for $200 or so for that before they work on the servo.

Good luck

Hello,
I had the same problem as you on my 1993 astro it will work but only for 2-3 min and let go sometimes it will stay a little longer
posted the problem on some other board and got this help I'll put down for you to try, it worked for me and I was very happy
under the dash on the drivers side there is a black little box about the size 5"x6" with a terminal connector plug that plus into it, I dont know what this part is called but is a computor board that has to do with the cuise control, any way i was told that the board rattles inside this box (the housing) and when it move in there it knock the cruise setting cauce of the movement, so I checked mine and I did find this little black box and I opened the top and they were right the board just layes in there with only the plug holding it pluged into it so i got some pressure sensitive velcro (that's velcro with the glue on the back and i lined the inside of the box with the velcro and made the inside of the box soft and then i put the board back into it and it fix tight and connected the plug and no more rattle or movement inside the box and then I tried it and it worked like new I was so happy that I did it my selfthan two weeks latera went on vacation to florida whick is 1200 miles away and the cruise worked like a dream so far two years later i haven"t had any problems with the criuse
hope this helps you if it does please respond
thanks

I had problem with a cruise control on my Astro, but the control box, located under the dash area, has three adjustable screws that controled various settings. I adjusted the screws and was able to adjust the sensitivity and range of the control. I also had corrosion on the contacts -- just enough to allow the intial command to go through but not enough to sustain control whenever I hit a bump or dip in the road.

The two previous mentions of a "black box" under the dash area, are bogus! the black box has nothing to do with the Cruse Control on a 94, and probably several other yr/models.. that box is actually the warning buzzer! Don't waste your time looking at this fix.. Your problem is more than likely the Cruse Servo,or a Vac leak!

the last guy does not know what he is talking about
there is a cruse control module in a little black box above the gas pedal behine the dash which houses a computor board, any way this board fits loosely in the plastic black box when it rattles in the houseing it cause the cruse control setting to let go and you will need to reset it again.
cusion the board in the box where it doesn't move and your headaches are over.
see ya
