Hey I want to put some new gears in my 97 T/A, but I am kinda going back and forth here. Anybody have experience with 3.73 in an auto. like how it is on the freeway. I am thinking 3.73 or just a small upgrade to the 3.42 gears, I am looking to be streetable I do get on the freeway and drive so I dont want to be at like 3500 on the freeway. Any opinions may help thanks.

from what I have heard 3.42 are the best performance and gas mileage friendly gears.

here use this rpm calculator to help out with what rpm you would run at highway speeds

Yea But im just thinking if I go through spending all the time and money and only get 3.42 its only gonna be a slight difference because the stock is 3.23. That calculator shows that if I put 3.73 in I should be around 2500 RPM at 75. Can anyone actually confirm this. Cuz if that is the case then I think I should just go 3.73, ill see way lower 1/4 miles runs i think. I dont know...

3.73's would be great, don't forget a good stall convertor.

I'm not sure what you have done to your car but if you havn't gotten a new stall that should be first on your list. You'd have to check into someone more familiar with LT1's to help you choose the stall speed though. LS1's like a 3500-3750 I think, yours might be close.

Might as well go with the 3.73's for the rear as they will make a much more noticable change in the 1/4

Yea,I am totally going for a stall first, and a better tranny cooler to go inline with the stock one. I was thinkin like 3400-3600 for a stall anyone got any suggestions. Thanks man.
