95 GS (GS-T/X engine swap questions)

Well im the new owner of a 95' eclipse gs, and i want to do an engine swap (the GS-T or GSX engine) I had a few quesitons
1. I live near the portland area, is it possible to do it there?
2. Im pretty sure the GS-T and GSX engines are exactly the same, but dont i need to get the GS-T because im only FWD, not AWD (like the GSX)
3. How much would it cost for a full engine swap?
4. Any good websites (not clubdsm.com or dsmtrader.com) that deal with swaps?
and finally..... I keep watching the fast and furious just for the green eclipse scene. I love his exhaust sound, and i want my muffler to sound like that, not a deep sound. His sounds really throaty, and if anyone has the same sound maybe they could tell me their engine setup (if that would change sound) and who makes their exhaust..
thanks

The engine swap will cost you a lot of money and if you do it yourself its a pain in the ass, you will have to pretty much get a whole new front end basically... new motor, tranny, and move anything that is in the way... come to say it would be cheaper if you just saved up for a while then sell the GS and put the money you saved on top of the price you sell the car for and buy a GST or GSX== much cheaper in the long run!!!

This question gets asked at least once a day on every forum I'm on. The major problem is the tranny and motor are on the wrong sides in the 95-99 NTs. So you will have to fabricate your own motor mounts, positionin the assembly in a way that will allow you to use the GST tranny and axles. I cant think of one reason this would ever be worth it. Either work with turboing the existing motor (www.hahnracecraft.com) or simply sell it and get the right car to start with if you want the 4g63 specifically. :)

the 1g turbo engine will bolt right into the rs and gs engine bay.....everyone thinks that just because the gst and gsx engines are backwards from the rs and gs that they won't work....they are right about the 95-99 turbo and all wheel drive engines not fitting but the 1g turbo's bolt right in. that's what i'm doing at this very moment i have a 95 eclipse rs and i'm putting in a 93 turbo engine (after beefing it up a bit) and also converting my auto to a 1g manual.....it all fits together right. i am workingon my car with a mitsubishi/talon specialist that lives in my area who has a 1g talon that's got 600hp to the wheels and 700 from the engine..he's the best specialist in the upper midwest area so i think he knows something about these cars.

Im guessing the best thing to do is save up and get a GSX or GS-T. The whole car cost me 4500 because i got it from a friend. Does anyone know what a reasonable priced GS-T or GSX will cost? If the car cost 4500+3000 for the turbo kit, thats 7500 total, and it would be pushing over 300HP with the turbo, strong pistons/rods, cams, valves, cold air, exhaust, rockers, lobes, upgraded tires and upgraded clutch (even nitrous would help too) and i get all the engine stuff done for free because i do the work myself (bore, port polishing yadda yadda)
Or maybe if i could get a GST for 7500 or LOWER than that could work.

you could get a gst EASILY for below 7,500. Or you could get a Eagle Talon TSI and it would be a bit cheaper then a eclipse :p

i'm up in the northeast corner of north dakota...20 miles from minnesota and 60 miles from canada
yeah...the specialist i'm working w/ talked to the main guy at buscher racing and he said that it bolts right in and they know what they're talking about
they built a 10 sec. talon and now they're working on a 7 sec.
to they other guy about prices....... i'm paying 3000 for the engine and tranny. the engine (w/a 16g turbo) will give me a bout 350hp.

Ah, the 1g turbo motors are setup exactly the same as the 2g turbo motors. So there is no difference. The motor mounts are still on the wrong side of the engine bay. Nice try though ;) It is true that it isnt too hard to put a 1g turbo engine in a 1g non turbo, because they didnt decide to swap the engine and tranny around between turbo and NT 1Gs. A 1g turbo motor in a 2g NT will still require welding in the proper motor mounts, or using the EVO4 and up motors that spin the opposite way of the DSM and EVO3 and earlier 4g63s. Either way, nothing "bolts right in." ;)

nope....from what the guy at buscher racing told him...the 1g will bolt right in, yes, true they are built the same but to be able to put a 1g turbo engine in a 2g turbo.....fabrication is needed. he said the 1g will bolt right in the 2g n/t.

my sister's boyfriend's cousin's best friend talked to a guy at this shop that said it wouldn't fit without fabrication. :icon16:

The 1g and 2g turbo cars are setup identically. I have a 92 motor in my 95, and most people dont notice it. So if a 2g turbo motor wont bolt in, the 1g wont either. Simple logic. I've done several swaps, and I am fully aware of how all these things work. A 1g motor will not bolt into the 2g NT without lots of fabrication, because the motor and tranny mounts are on the OPPOSITE sides of the engine bay. Bushur is also fully aware of this. You may have talked to someone that worked for BR named Chris that is no longer there, and had a thing or two to learn about DSM still you could say. Otherwise I highly doubt anyone at bushur said this.
