RX-7 Turbo Plumbing???

Whilst examining the engine bay of my Tamiya RX-7 R1 I noticed that alot of the piping and detail is somewhat covered up by airboxes and what not. My request to you guys is if someone could explain or draw a diagram of where everything would go (pipes mainly) for a RX-7 with a front mount intercooler.

Thanks inadvance

One pipe of the FMIC connects to the turbo (if you have one) and the other side connects to the manifold...i think (used to know but forgot). :banghead:

not to steal hiroboys thunder with his pic, I think that setup is non-typical for a FD3S, the model your building would have piping that flows to the front moreso. the pipes would be more like this typically.

Hiro's explanation is good anyway even if it's not the proper set up that tc3house desires.

He can just look for different pictures of the engine bay and be able to identify what's what with Hiroboy's pic.

I agree. I'd be hard pressed to find a labeled FD3S engine. but thats the wierdest looking intercooler setup EVER. and thats specifically what he needed pics for. Just trying to make sure he would have other ideas as to what to do with the piping besides build that wierd looking box. I'd bet money thats not a greddy intercooler.

Run down to your local bookstore and grab the new Sport Compact Car. They have a great spread of a drift set up RX-7, with some really good shots on the engine (which surprised me--magazines seem to show only one, crappy, unreadable picture of engines). If I had a scanner I'd scan them and email the pictures to you, but alas, I do not. Maybe someone else has the magazine and a scanner?

And is it just me, or is that the top a fuel tank just to the left (as the driver sits) of the intercooler in the yellow car?

dont quote me on this but i think the 2nd rx-7 pic (the yellow one) does not have a rotary motor in it. I saw a description of it once and im pretty sure it has an inline toyota motor in it. I remember it as being a new supra motor but it looks like a 4 cyl in that picture. 4age perhaps? or i might be crazy. :screwy:

I'm not familiar with RX-7 but this is how the air of a turbo charged engine flow.

Intake airbox(or filter) -> intake pipe -> turbo compressor -> intercooler -> intake manifold(throttle) -> engine cylinder(from this point it is exhaust gas) -> exhaust stack -> BOV -> turbo tubine -> muffler and out

Help me out guys, did I miss something??

Thanks, but know how all that works (thanks howstuffworks.com) it was just the Rotary engine is a little confusing to look at...

This months issue of Super Street has a complete how to on how to mount a V-Mount intercooler on an FD3S. They used the Endless FD as the project car :)
