sr20det vs 4g63 vs 3gste

which do you think is the best import inline 4? I"m going for the 3gste ( i dunno if that's exactly right) because they use it in a lot of the highly tuned Supra's (Top Secret, Tom's) it comes stock in the Celica GT-four, the MR-2 turbo the lexuc IS (Toyota Altezza) and some more if i got down and thought about it

i think i have to go with the 3sgte engine, cause its used more in racecars than the other two.

sr20det. capable of 500+ hp on stock engine internals. although i'm not really familiar with the 3sgte.

maybe if i put RB26DETT in the mix more people will come. or if i just added the word skyline..

But if you put the RB26DETT into the comparison, then the other 3 engines will lose by default since we all know RB26DETT is the god of engines and it is the best engine ever made in history.

i would go for 4g63 cuase its very tunable and cause i like mitsu's personaly. i've had a ride in a 250 kw lancer gsr an it did a 12 sec quarter mile (low 12's) :grinno: but yea the rb is the god an no dout about that. but if ur planing to put an good small engine in ur car(if its a smaller car) like a civic majority carry 4g63's in them. my verdict is the engine is very tuneable an small. i don't realy now about the toyota engine but it sounds pretty cool the sr20 is pretty good considering it lies under the bonnet of sum of the best drifters in the world :)

Well, for Americans you have to pick the 4g63 because it's actually available!! The sr20det is tough to even consider because of the overhead cost of actually having one in the states. It's a novelty and that's about it. For what someone invests in an sr20det I could build a 12 second Eagle Talon and that's including the cost of the whole car! However I live in Japan so an sr20det isn't tough to come buy, but they still aren't exactly cheap here because everyone (including junkyard workers) know all about them. The rb series can't be compared here because it's a six cylinder. They're not cheap here either. I was at a used parts chain last week and say an rb25det for 5 million yen

scratch that on the rb, it was 500,000 yen. A little less than 5000 bucks

Well, it really depends what you're trying to do with the engine. To tune and blow up to a shit load of horsepower the sr20 nissan motors are ideal. They respond very well to mods. The only thing to consider is the cost to get it in the car of your choice. The sr20 is the one of the best motos nissan has ever built and one of the best motors built ever PERIOD!

I know this is a little off topic but did anyone read this dec issue of turbo mag? They started a series on rotary engines and they explain how they work and some issues with them in detail. I love turbo mag! I just wanted to know does onyone think that maybe rotary is the best way to go for drag and just high speed driving in general. They do have much less moving parts it seems so less shit that can brake! It just spured my interest in rotary and want to know if any of you guys have any experience with them, or can anyone compare from experience cylinder vs. rotary angines reliability and race potential!?

dude...start your own thread of cylinder vs. rotary, and ask what you just said, or ask advantages, disadvantages of both. i dont know how you even got the idea to post in here, its way off topic, and if you dont know how to start a thread, look in the upper right hand corner area, click on new thread.

Lets not get too carried away. i obviously like imports since i drive an sr20det but i wouldnt say rb26dett is the god of engines. that would have to go to a dodge 440 magnum v8. capable of 1500 horse. anyways i would go with sr20 by default between the three.

I know the EJ20 isn't an inline-four, but I think it still merits consideration.

hey idunno if im too late for this to reply but I have personaly owned all 3. 92 dsm, 94 mr2 turbo , and my s1.345 (s13 shell )(s14 motor)(s15 front)

4G63 - F*** that dsm. I had to fix that thing more than i had to put gas in it. ITs so cheap its so cheap and fast blah blah blah. its so cheap cuz u have to fiz it all the time. head gasket burn through quick rods gets thrown. i mean if u just want to go fast and u have 8 other 4g's laying around for parts ur good.

the 3sgte was alot of fun , and the motor was pretty light. Never had any real problems with it. I actually had more problems with the cars wiring than the motor.

the sr20det. also fun, no bottom end. and what this means is drag sucks, yeah u could do u own special set up but in the end a regular k motor turbo'd would usually win. its also verrrrry responsive to mods u can push 400 with probly less than 2k.

btw all u skyline rb26dett lovers

there is onemotor out there than they even swap into skylines..... dun dun dun. Its called - drumroll -

the VQ30DETT

they use this motor for drag and the super gt 500.

280to the wheels stock and can push n push n push
