Airbrush or no?

I've been into modeling for a while now, but have only had spray cans at my disposal. I cannot, for the life of me, get a good finish on models. I tryed the P-man method to paint, but I still haven't gotten it right. I really want to know if I should go ahead and get and airbrush and learn to use it. I can detail the car just fine, that's not the problem. Bodies are my big weakness, and I want to know if I acquire an airbrush if I can achieve better results. It's my birthday in a week too, so it would be a logical gift.

Cool...another Atlanta builder! Rotaryman=Mazda?
Airbrushes are the way to go, unless you use Tamiya spray cans. Then you can use the airbrush for interior/engine/detail, and the Tamiya spray cans for color/clearcoat. If you want a custom color, airbrush is the way to go.
Of course I'm prejudiced about airbrushing, since I wrote the Kalmbach book "How to use an Airbrush"...but even so, I use Tamiya sprays religiously. Just painted an RX-8 in Tamiya Mica Red, which came out perfect.
Just a shameless plug for the book:

You might want to come to our model car show (ACME NNL) on Nov. 8th at the Smyrna Community Center. We have a club meeting this Sunday at 3:30 as well, same place. All car classes are on display, w/special themes this year for tuners and the 50th anniversary of the Corvette.

With a car model which has large areas to be sprayed you can't go wrong with an airbrush - especially when applying metalic paints to get the flakes lie correctly.
It also opens up the options on the paints you are wanting to use eg: using automotive paints.
