i had a 90 accord once and the tranny went out in it over the course of 6 months. i started with not being able to go into reverse. then it started to get to where it would grind and slip goin in forward gears under alot of strain. then one day after a 110mph run on the highway it barely would go without slipping i barely made it home. hope that helps

Transmissions usually "go out" over a period of time, but yet it can fail without notice. Instead of listing all the symptoms, what are your tranny's symptoms, how is the fluid level, color, & smell(how many miles)? You could always take it to Honda & have a Service Advisor test drive for free or pay a minimum 1.0hr of labor for a tech to diag. If the tran's is found to be bad, then they would replace it with a rebuilt tranny not wasting time rebuilding. Another choice would be a free test drive @ a tran's specialist - if they think there is a problem then they would offer a rebuilt trans or opening your trans for rebuilding(last choice).

Hmmmm... I lost reverse ability tonight in my auto trans... I primarily get a harsh grind trying to get it into reverse. Although a couple of times I got it to catch it still made a strange clicking while backup up and slipped back into the grinding when I tried to put it under load while in reverse.

So, do you think I'm looking at a failing tranny? If so, what's the average cost to have a rebuild installed?

Thanks for your input.
