I have an annoying problem with my Passat TDI - can anyone help?
I have changed the oil and oil filter, but the "OIL / SERVICE" messages still keep coming on when I start up. Is there an oil change procedure which re-sets the warning?
thanks Steve Wood

I'm curious. What grade of oil was used, and is this cold climate?

I read your reply. I'm not recommending anything, but I would expect a 5 or 10W in anything synthetic, no blends, are more than satisfactory. I'm hoping friends in the neighborhood share use of their the Harrison R&D or VAG Com units, http://www.ghg.net/dharrison/, http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/, but this code should always be a fee-free reset at the dealer. I use the Harrison, and I'll clear codes for anyone within a short walk to their driveway.

I used Castrol 15W 40, which I believe to be equivalent to the VW standard; (it's also sold as a specialist diesel turbo oil). It's autumn in England - typical temperatures during the day are 10-12C say 50 -55F. Since I posted I have heard that the message is generated electronically every 10,000 miles and can only be cleared by a dealer - i.e. it's nothing to do with the oil, - but if anyone knows better let me know.
