Progress: TA22 Celica 1600GT

Heres what Ive done so far on my Hasegawa TA22 Celica 1600GT. This is the first kit Ive done any modifications on and its been interesting to say the least so far...

This is it so far in Tamiya white primer. The body is going to stay pretty much stock. The only thing Ive done so far is full in the stock holes for the mirrors which were way up the front, the mirrors will be mounted just behind the a-pillars as in the reference pics below.

http://www.arach.net.au/~raffa/models/1600gt/side.jpg

Not decided on a colour yet, thinking Taminya Gold or Crome yellow..any suggestions?
http://www.arach.net.au/~raffa/models/1600gt/back.jpg
After painting and fitting all the suspension I discovered that the Aoshima wheels werent going to fit in the stock wheel archs. I decided to use the stock hasegawa tires on the front and the wider aoshima wheels on the rear and go for the street-drag car kinda look (wheels in the pic: left- Aoshima rear, middle-Aoshima front, right-Hasegawa stock). It doesnt really come out in the pic but ive used a dremel to widen the rear archs and made new ones out of styrene and putty which was a bit tricky as I had to do it without damaging the suspension allready installed. Hopefully they come out allrite with a bit of primer and flat black.

Ive also built a custom exhaust from the header back using sprues and muffler I had from another kit. Haven't decided on the second muffler yet..

A couple of reference pics Im working with..

2 (http://www.arach.net.au/~raffa/models/1600gt/timf01.jpg)

Ill post some more pics when Ive finished building these wheel arches.

You know, IMHO it looks killer in white, maybe do a pearl white. That'd be sweet.

Very neat build-up, and the re-arched wheelwells is a great subtle mod. I'll be waiting for more on this one.

Yeah pearl white like that first reference pick had also crossed my mind... been playing with it a bit more and am starting to think so nice fender flares would be good but Im not brave enough to try it on a good body yet :) .. maybe on the TA23 Ive got coming from hlj

Those and Toyota TE27s are my absolute favorite old school Japanese cars. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Why are Celicas and Corollas FWD now, they use to be the shiet!

Thanks to ratdat for the flares! After all that work to modify the wheel archs Ive got to change it now so the wheels fill out the flares :p Its going to be one of those models

Ok its been a while since Ive done any work on this one but I recieved the Acu Stion upgrade kit for it and decided to pulllit out again. Im thinking this kit is too good for this model with my experimental modifications so Im going to build a stock version of the kit with it.

http://www.arach.net.au/~raffa/models/1600gt/upgrade.jpg

Ive had another change of direction. I decided to expand the flares a bit and make then into a bit more of a body kit and go for a bit of a street racer look, the puttys a bit rough in the pic but you get the general idea. The mouse in the pic is painted in tamiya mica red and Im thinking this is the color Im going to paint the celica.

man these silly-cars (dumb arse speak for celica if you hadn't guessed) rock...and old mate of my had one with a 18RG (i think that was it) shoved in it...handled like a kart and could rip the balls off a LS1 engineed new monaro (all you's american people that is what you new GTO coupe is...a POS holden new monaro.. :p )
sorry for the lil off topic there....but that is a sick model dude.

im looking at buying either that or a hakosuka kit next

anything wrond with this kit>?

86_SR5
01-13-2004, 09:57 PM
we don't have the new Goats yet. And, it's your opinion that the holden monaro GTS, btw it's the brother of the GTS not the regular coupe, is a POS. I personally like them, and if all goes well, two years from now I'll be driving one closest to the carousel orange used on the judge.

This kit is quite good, Id stay away from the Aoshima kits though, the one Ive got is based on a motorised version and has no suspension and very little chassis detail at all. Plus the body looks too square and a little out of scale.

Ive never heard of the hakosuka kit, got a link where I can have a look?

A bit more progress on the from fenders. Thinking about using different wheels aswel since I couldnt quite get the other ones looking right...

the SIKest celica out STILL....man im deffinately buyin one of these lil beauts....and im so sorry 86...but i still think the GTS is a pos....im forever seeing them get hosed...like yesterday...escort RS2000 toasted a yellow one near my place...was funny as hell...cause my old man was tryin to keep up in his lil suzuki swift... :p

sorry again bout the lil hi-jack...im gonna take a trip to the LHS soon and pick me up one of these and some decent wheels...
keep up the good work dude.

86...you live in brissy...and judge is the sikest car round 'eh>?

Don't mean to go off topic. But I have to address this:

Wide Load.....For 1 you thinking an GTS Corolla is an POS, that's you opinion. For2: I don't have the privilege of the GTS' 1.8 DOHC EFI 4cyl, positrac rear end, and close ratio 5spd. I drive an sr5 with a 1.6 SOHC 2bbl carb.

I'm not too sure what you mean about the Escort thing, because I've had the head on mine ported out, removed the cat, and I can easily beat del sols (stock ones) Keep in mind, the AE86 is not a drag car, it's a slidy-aroundy car.

I don't know where Brissy is, I'm in the US. I like the GTO Judge, mainly because that's what it was, The Judge. I'd truely love to have one, or any muscle car from that time period.

I don't know of any 'sick' cars around except mine. Meaning it needs a good tune-up, I'll admit, it's a slow 16second 1/4mile car, and it doesn't go past 130mph, but I love it, and to me, that's all that matters.

tonioseven

"Sick" is slang for a bad-assed car; he meant no offense; it's just cartalk, that's all :) That Celica is pure madness!! :sunglasse:sunglasse

wow! i just bought this model today and have already gotten the chassis put together....I really like what you're doing with yours...Mine is just gonna be box stock but painted yellow and the watanabe rims painted silver i might use the fujimi rs-watanabe's because they look deeper than the rims that came with the kit..

the celica still looking fine...but i dont really like the molded in flares. i prefer old skool bolt on style...and by GTS i wasnt talking a corolla GTS...i know there a weapon...i was talking about the MONARO GTS..australian car using a detuned LS1 engine...they are a POS. and they are being exported to the US under the badge engineering 'pontiac GTO'. and i agree dude...the judge pontiac GTO was a beast...but there was a monaro GTO (im confussed, i hope you guys arent) over here that was orange and ran a 600kw blown LS1 in it...untill it crashed at the drags one night. sorry for being off topic again...im goin to my LHS tomorro and im gonna buy this kit...

bergerac54 - i think HLJ has the hakosuka kit. just search for KPGC10 skyline GTR
