I'm sure everyone is tired of newbie threads.. But i'm looking into getting a mustang.. currently i am driving a pos 87 yota pickup that is having tranny problems.. I've been look for around a 95 and was wondering if 3k-4k would be a good price for something with a little over 100k miles. What year would give me the best performance: 94, 95, or 96? I am looking for a standard mustang that is resonabley priced but will not let me down. Any suggestions on what to look for to make sure everything is fine when i purchase the car. And any tips on some nice mods?

Welcome!
I'd stick with a 94 or 95 over a 96. 94/95 have pushrod 5.0L motors and there very easy to modify. 96 was the first year for the OHC or modular 4.6L motors, and they weren't very good in it's early stages. Also I hope you have extreamly good luck, cause finding a car in the years you stated for 3-4 grand in decent shapr is going to be though!

I seriously doubt you are going to find a car those years for the price you have stated. I'd start looking at Fox-bodies, you could get a nice one for that price. If you stay those years I'd stay away from the 96-98 Stangs.

Not really around here... You see them around every corner... College town with 2 colleges close by and a larger city.. A friend of mine bought a 95 with 120k miles and a perfect body with no major engine trouble, just needed new brakes and standard stuff.. She only paid 3200. The most I have seen a 95 go for in the paper is 4500 and it sat there for 6 months before anyone bought it. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that i can find a good deal on one like she did.

Course her car isn't worth that much right now :( she was backing out of her driveway and slid the side of the car aganist the stepside of her brother's silverado.... lots and lots of dents... i just about cryed with her.

look for a notchback or a foxbody with a 5.0 in it. They are very cheep and easy to find parts for and sound amazing. Go on autotrader u can find some for that price

Are these cars your talking about V8's or V6's? I can see finding a V6 for those prices, but not V8's.

They are V-6... I am more interested in the V6 than the V8 because of gas mileage... Poor high school student so i really can't afford a fortune in gas ;) But as it stands my POS truck is getting crummy gas mileage so i think i V6 would be about the same or better.

You'd be suprised on what a V8 can get for gas mileage.

The new 4.6L stangs get 18/22 mpg I believe.

12?!? that is rebonckulouse! Any mustang would be an improvment over that! except highflow's i guess. Any stock pony that is.

That is what i am thinking... when i found out i was only getting 12 mpg i just about fell over... and with the thing developing new sounds i don't think it will be around too much longer
