Painting Q's

I'm kind of tired of looking at all the scratches and dents, and even though I reailze they will be there again, I want it to look decent every once and a while. So while Im doing stuff to the engine, Does anyone have a website that outlines exactly how to paint panels of your car?
I often find places that tell you the basics (which I already know; sand, putty, sand, primer, paint, clear) But I want to know exactly what to use, like what brands and types do you all recommend for a "normal" gloss black paint job. I'd like to learn how to paint the plastic parts also; I figure the same process holds true except different kinds of primer right?
I plan to get a HVLP gravity feed spray gun to spray it all with for about 70$ on sale at harbor freight (anything special I need, like a special tip or needle?)
I've got a 5hp air compressor, that does around 12-13cfm at 40psi, I figure that might be marginal but I wont be painting the entire car at once (yes it will be the same color though... Im not that bad  ) Is there anything wrong with the setup other than I might not be able to use it for extended periods?
Thanks in advance,

Ok, so I don't really know if it's persay, Gloss Black, but I know its not flat, and I didn't think they made a bunch of different finishes, I've only seen 1 or 2 kinds, and their all metallic arent they? I don't think they even had a special name for it, Just black. (Not like "electron black" or anything.)
Is kicker the 'paint guy' or something?
Thanks,
