PLEASE read this over and over before you post a question etc

Cheers

"AF's 2003 MODEL OF THE YEAR"

The rules will be ....

*Only open to AF members who have joined AF BEFORE the 1st December 2003
*Must be a model built this year (2003) by a AF member before the 31st December 2003.
*Entry will open on the 1st December and close on 31st December 2003...NO models will be accepted before this date
*One photo only will be posted...so make it a good one.
*The photo MUST be uploaded from AF
*Only ONE model per person
*The contest will be open to the FIRST 40 MODELS I RECEIVE due to the amount of people that are members on AF. So you will need to be quick if you want to enter. (This may change if we get flooded with entries)
*Open to cars and bikes only.
*The Modeling Mods decision will be FINAL
*This is run as a Peoples Choice contest.....no category for different models

HOW TO ENTER.

*Two photos to be sent by Private Message to .....Me, "Primera Man"
*ONE photo for the contest…the SECOND photo to show that the model is yours. Take a photo of the model with you’re A.F name on a piece of paper with the model to prove it’s yours
*Photo's only...no text

HOW TO VOTE.

*Once all the cars have been intered I will make a thread at the start of the year.
*Each model will have a number to vote beside it, and the person who built the kit.
*To vote, simply send a PM to me with your vote....NO OTHER VOTES WILL BE ALLOWED
*You can vote for THREE (3) MODELS
1st=3pts
2nd=2pts
3rd=1pt

*Only AF members can vote that are members BEFORE the 31st December 2003. This will also stop people logging on with different names to vote again. If a vote is suspect, I can check it out and it will be deleted along with the entry of the model.
*You CAN NOT vote for your own model
*The thread will be locked so you can view them only.
*My idea of this is so that it will ONLY have the pics of the models.
*It stop's people from voting twice from other computer's etc
*Stop's any AF Mod from deleting or changing the votes......You guys will have to trust me on this !!!
*This way if the poll is changed in any way I will know as I will have all the votes.
*The judges vote will be FINAL.
*In the event of a tie...i will go through the votes to see who had the most 3pt votes to get a winner.
*The updates of voting will be posted every 1-2 days
*Voting will finish on the 31st January 2004 and the winner can then show off as much as they like !!!

I will enter the contest, but in the event of myself coming first, the runner up will receive the prize

I will give a prize out to the winner.

I'll buy a kit of some kind (A new Tamiya/Revell/Fujimi), also some compound, tape etc ….. and will send it to the winner.
Chris (flyonthewall) has also very kindly decided to give one of his SAS kits as a prize also
Tonioseven will add a prize also.

If any body else wishes to add a prize…..let us know so it can be added to the winners list !!

So stay tuned for the kit i get !!

Remember....this is just abit of FUN.....Don’t flame me or others if things don’t go your way. I'm doing this for SOMETHING THAT I HOPE YOU WILL ALL ENJOY AGAIN.
As I said before...you guys will have to trust me on this one with the voting. The only person that will see the voting will be Myself or the other modeling mods if I decide I need a hand with a decision. All I ask is for you all to be honest and help out our own little "AF Model Club"

Last years A.F.M.O.T.Y was a huge success and hopefully this years will be even better.

You can help out by adding the contest into all of your sigs to remind people :naughty:

Cheers
Modeling Mods

PS...This thread will be made a sticky soon

Max pixel size, please? P-man, you don't want to resize so many pictures, do you?
640x480, 800x600 or 1024x768 ?
Also, multiple images (for example front and rear) in one picture is permitted, right?

<Tip for new members>
* Web camera is no go. Arrange to borrow a digicam or SLR from your friends before the contest.
* Good lighting will greatly improve the photo.
* Don't try to fill the view finder with a model to take a close up photo, or the image might turn out blurry. Try to focus first, then crop the image with a photo editing software.

Since you have to upload the images to AF galleries, I would imagine the limiting factor would be the size of the image you can upload there.

I bet there were a few sighs of relief when they read that. Remember, you don't have to make something specificly for the comp, just has to have been built this year.

Anyway judging by my build rate this year (Nismo R34 (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t96025.html) was last model finished in Feb), i too think i may be out of the running this year.

Well one serious question that(I think)that isn't covered in the topic...

If someone's entry/model has a progress thread before(or finished pics...which is worse)not only he gets more than 1 pics but also people knows who made the model they vote...So what about that???Doesn't that person has a big advantage???

errr, thanks.... I think. :eek7:

Yep, I remember it feels like it was yesterday reading that Hawk won it..

It feels the same to me. I remember reading the hand-written notes I got from certain members here along with the prizes, and I still have them displayed above "Eleanor". I think that meant the most (a hint for you guys donating the prizes :iceslolan ).
Hopefully, I`ll be able to start participating here again once things get straightened out here, and maybe I will be back for 2004.

This is gonna be sweet. Maybe I can finish one of my models so I can enter.

I forget though, who won last year?

Camber
11-02-2003, 10:11 PM
I have a major suggestion that just about everyone i've talked to agrees. I dont think we should only be able to use the af upload for the pictures. It makes the car look like shit, and for the modeler who had put in so much time for it doesn't want it to be ruined because of some shitty pictures. What do you think pman?

bigfrit
11-03-2003, 05:48 AM
Camber, I kinda understand your concern,

But I think it would be unfair to have the cars uploaded from all sorts of servers , while others (including me ) will have to use the AF upload.

Best thing is one rule for all (or we should have a separate server space just to view the photo's ?)

Olivier :)

The reason i've asked the pics to be loaded from AF is so that it keeps them all the same size.
Plus for some stupid reason i cant load the pics and post them from my computer   so i have to have the link for each photo from AF to copy and paste into a thread

Camber

Well maybe you can ask everyone to please make there images to a certain size _ x _ and please be sure it works for AF, because alot of people on here have trouble uploading from here, and the pics get fuzzy.

P-man...quick question.. How many entries have you recieved and when will pictures be posted?

blueboost
12-02-2003, 11:21 PM
this is going to be awesome!

one thing though. one GOOD shot of the model... well if its a curb-side kit no problem. What about engine detail? Any suggestion for models being submitted with engine detail? Its very hard to capture detail in the engine bay while getting a good shot of the lines of the car at the same time! Those models with engine detail would be sacrificing some of the details on the exterior to get that shot where a curb-side kit would have an advantage. :dunno:
The rules are the rules, just wanted to hear your say on this.

and thanks to those that have put the time money and effort into making this possible! :D

Should we make a new model for the contest or can we use a model which is already posted in older thread? (built in 2003 ofcource)

You can use a model from a older thread that has already been built.
If you do happen to finish a model in December and post a thread with finished pics i guess it will give you a advantage.(if there is a entry left open)
There's nothing stopping you dragging up your thread from the year if you wish

The model has to be completed, it can't be in-progress. It has to be done. If you happen to finish the RX7 before all the spots are taken, you can enter it.

Hello!

For P-Man, one question

I wanted compete with my 206 Redvolution, but by difficulties with the language not left all clear one...

I also send to you one image only of the model and an image with a paper that puts "AutomotiveForums" and my nickname, that's all right??

It tell me if it is right or no, and if it fails or it lacks something...

I hope that they understand to me well, excuse for my English...

A greeting and thousand thanks
