So I turned 16 a few weeks ago and my parents gave me a '98 S-10. All of my friends like to see me brakestand all the time and put on a smoke show, and as you can iamgine I do. But is it really safe to do that? Does it hurt my ABS? Also is it hard on the transmission when I'm doing a burn out and it shifts all the way up to third? Thanks for the help.

Yes, it hurts you trans. If you spin both wheels, it won't mess with the ABS unless you have 4 wheel abs. You will need brakes soon if you continue such behavior. I speak from exprience-my 700r4 is dying from abuse and my abs has also died. there is now a problem with my brakes and I can't find it. Trouble, trouble.

Here where I am from we call it "brake torque" or "brake torqing" the tires. My ABS brakes always acted funny after I would do it so I stopped in my S 10. And as far as your tranny I couldnt imagine the load especially if your shifting through the burn out. I dont worry about that anymore though. When I see a burn out I see money going to waste and could be better spent on "hookin up" I only want tire spin when I am clearing the mud from my tires. I am not trying to dog you either but if or when I get my son an S10 or hand down mine I hope he respects it a bit more than that. Maybe this is why I will make him buy his own.
