Fuel pump ???

Hello;
Well here is my problem,first off , I have a1999 S-10 Blazer 4 door 4.3 vortec. Last week i was driveing in town and it just shut off, I restarted and went on my way, again it shut off, it started .Went about 500 ft, it shut off for the 3rd time. again restarted and headed for home . It ran fine all the way home.when i got home , I heard a whineing sound from under Blazer. It sounded like a high speed fan running. the next few days it ran great . Brought it to my mechanic, he checked the fuel pump and told me he couldnt find anything wrong with it , the pressure on it tested okey. then 2 days lator , it was doing it again , shutting off . did this 3 times in about 10 minutes time.its weird when it acts up , it does it in 3,s .Then works fine for a few days. I had him change fuel filter ,but that didnt cure my problem. I still can hear the high pitch fan sound noise tho. off and on, it doesnt do it all the time,I have been driving my Blazer for a week now and it hasnt shut off since then, When i shut the key off , i can hear the noise for about 2 seconds. I noticed my fuel milage went went down alot (MPG) since this started. Is it possible that the fuel pump is getting weak in pumping the gas, thus telling the computer on the vehicle that it needs more fuel.thus getting crappy MPG . Could it be something else that is causing this problem.The mechanic said that thier expencive. like $ 400 for the pump

The hardest part about intermittants is getting them to act up long enough to do a proper diagnosis.
On those model trucks a fuel pump is definatly suspect..but I would have to confirm that first.
Have your mechanic check the amp draw on the fuel pump circuit. Should be less than 6 amps.

Well Here i am listening to good ole Bluegrass music, writing this rply.LOL
but anyway, thanks for giving me some input on this problem of mine,wish i could give it to somebody else.lol well rite now , im in a pretty good mood . i got the Bluegrass just a crankin, I suppose i;ll have my trusty mechanic check that out . the amp thing. i bet my mood,s gonna change when i get the bill.LOL. But I still love my lil S-10 Blazer. Ive had 3 of them now, a 88--93 now a 99 . thier very dependalbe ,not much problems with any of them i had.If anybody else has any input on this , feel free to post, dont be bashfull, it isnt going in the till thursday.
