New Engine

I recently purchased a 2000 R34 that had been imported through Motorex as a pressent for a spoiled little rich kid by his father. He then proceded to overboost the engine and completely destroy the block. So right now I have a silver R34 sitting in my garage without an engine, and I would really love to get it back out on the street.

I have two questions the most important is wether or not I am going to have to go through Motorex for a new engine and pay their outlandish prices or if I could get one imported directly. I know that for a full car Motorex is the only option, but I don't want a whole car, I just want the engine, the rest of the car has already been legalized.

The other question is regarding what type of engine to get. I don't know a whole lot about the Skylines and I honestly don't know what the best engine is. I know that the RB26DETT is awsome but is there something better?

Silver R34 . I only know of 2 silver ones in the US.... One went to Hawaii . The other is in LA.

As far as motors go....RB26 is the engine thats supposed to be in the car , and anything else would be simply blasphemy.


You dont need a "new" motor . But RB26 is not an inexpensive motor. Stock they are good to about 500 hp to the wheels . Modified - all depends on how much you spend- and what you call "streetable".

We have a complete N1 block , HKS 2.8 kit , etc in stock.

It wasn't originally silver. It started out bayside blue but the kid had it repainted. Basically the twit riced the hell out of it and destroyed its character. I would like to bring it back to something realistic, around 350 - 400 Hp.

I'm in the middle of a move right now so cash is a bit tight. I promised myself I wouldn't just toss any engine that would fit into it just so I could drive it, no mater how tempting it is. I want to do it right, even if that means I wont be able to drive it for a few more months.

since you ain't driving this car why don't you take out the digital camera and take some pictures of the car, plus the inside of the doors and the inside of the dash, and the control panel go pic crazy, I want to know what MotoRex's secret is and if people think that uncovering it is just srewing MotoRex one you obviously own a skyline and second how does it feel. Think about it. Ha 25 thousand. PLus Id be more than happy to not drive a skyline in Cali they have insane emmissions.

You say that you have the R34 right... and motorex has already modified it. Why don't you see if you can capitalize on this situation? Lots of people would be willing to pay money to have a look at your car. If someone that really knew skylines had a look at your car they might be able to see the differences between the Japanese version and yours. If you let some of the right people put your car on a lift and check it out maybe remove some bumpers and check what motorex did to make it meet the crash test ratings. That would leave lighting. Whatever they have to do to make it SAE/DOT compliant. You could probably get enough funds to do the engine without digging into your own pockets.

You guys think you can figure out what Motorex did with just a few pictures? Even if you take it apart, you won't be able to figure it out, because you won't know what the car was like originally. :disappoin

If you really wanted to try this, you'd have to get a stock Skyline and compare it piece by piece with a legalized one.

Finally, if you figure out everything that was done, you'd have to do it yourself, provided your goal is to bypass Motorex. Even if you get it done somewhere else, it might not be legal anyway, since it wouldn't be an RI like Motorex.

If you want a Skyline so bad, just 'pay the man,' and quit whining.

There are only a few people (maybe 2 -3) in the US that know the R34 inside and out .

I am one of them.

Even if you get the DOT side of it - SAE has nothing to do with compliancing overall , you still need to do the EPA side of it.

So even if you are an RI , and do the DOT side . Then you need an ICI to do the EPA work. There are about 6-7 ICI's in the US . There is only one I know of that will actually do the work.

Back to the "ORGINAL TOPIC" and I bloody mean back.

You don't have to go through MotoRex to bring in a motor. It is nothing more than purchasing outside the country then organizing the shipping both to and through out the country you reside. As far as tarrifs and taxes that is something you should look into.

Right now I know of one complete engine, though it is out of an R32 GTR. As far as more information about it flick me a pm and I will get it for you.
Do you have the blown motor? If so you maybe able to use the head from that one as I am not totally sure how different they are. I know guys have dropped N1 blocks from R34's in the R32 and also used the heads as well. it is possible they are better factory ported which would be a bonus not to mention the cam profile.

Why respray Bayside to silver?

If you are replacing the motor - take the chance to do it properly, but not crazily - go the N1 mentioned in Tyndago's post. I'm shortly replacing my R33 standard turbos with R34 N1's - hooray for steel impellers :)
