i have a 1985 s-10 and i was wondering what the best or cheapest way to lower it also wear are some good sight that have body kits and thing like that for my truck i 'm really trying to make it look good and just need some help.

I have a 93 S-10 and was in the same boat as you for a long time. Now, I'm doing a frame off on it, with everything being painted and chromed. Here's the link to mine, if you want to see it: http://www.streetsourcemag.com/Profile.aspx?profileid=2363


For exterior styling, such as bug deflectors, ventshades, taillight and headlights covers, you can go to your closest AutoZone, Pep Boys, or even Napa. You can try www.stylinconcepts.com, www.xenon.com, or www.eastcoastcustoms.com for body kits.

To go about lowering it a few inches: put 2" drop spindles in the front with 1" drop springs (this will lower the front 3"); And put 3" blocks with new u-bolts in the rear (Pep Boys sells the blocks with the new u-bolts). Blocks come in 1", 2", 3", or 4". If you want lower in the front, buy new control arms, or a 2" drop spring. It all depends on how low you want to go. As with any lowering, you are going to need new shocks at all four corners.

If you want to go any lower in the rear, put in a mono-leaf, unless you do towing because mono-leafs decrease towing capacity by 30% - From what I've heard. Do not stack the lowering blocks. Bad idea! Being involved in the Minitruckin' world, I have heard my fair share of horror stories about doing that. For example if you want a 6" drop in the rear, do NOT stack two 3" blocks to do it. Run one leaf spring aka monoleaf.

Which site do you find that kit on? And to lower an S10 is not as expensive as some people think it is. A set of 3" lowering blocks with the new u-bolts runs 40 bucks. Not bad, 40 bucks to lower the rear of the truck. The most expensive part will probably be buying all new shocks.

Ride comfort will be decreased somewhat. Not to the point that it will be so uncomfortable that you're not going to want to drive the truck. I did 2" drop spindles & 1" coils in the front; 3" blocks in the rear; And the truck looked better and handled nicer. The rear will hit bumps a little harder, but I don't think it will be anything to worry about.

Try going with Toxic Shocks when you buy shocks.

$89 each times 2 = $178 for 3" drop leaf springs, which give a factory ride, for the rear.
$33 each times 2 = $66.00 for 3" drops springs for the front
$39 each times 2 = $78 for the front shocks
$49 each times 2 = $98 for the rear shocks
About $420

You have to buy new shocks because the factory shocks will bottom out. When you lower the truck and re-install the factory shocks, they will be all the way in (bottomed out) by the time you line up the bolt holes. And even if you can bolt them in before they bottom out, when you drive the truck, the shocks will then bottom out. Trust me, get new shocks. When I first lowered mine, I used BellTech's Nitro Drop shock - not sure if they are around anymore. I know BellTech is still around but that shock was probably changed.

When you are lowering the rear of the truck, technically, you are actually raising the axle. When you put the lowering block in or the drop leaf spring in, you will notice that the axle will sit higher. Now, when you take the truck off of jackstands, it will sit lower. When you raise the axle of the truck, the factory shock will bottom out, thus the reason to buy drop shocks.

Whoever you buy your lowering components from, just tell them to give you the shocks that will work. At AIM Industries (www.truckn.com), they are just categorized by make and model of truck, not by how much of a drop.
