newbie motor question

What effect does reving your car in neutral (in an auto) then droping it into drive? I know or think it might harm my transmission and I have never actually done it so I was wondering what would happen if I did? Just curious...

You could break motor mounts break axles break tranny parts etc

Basically it's like shoving a part that's going 4k RPMs or more, into a part that's at a dead 0 RPM standstill. Like whtteg stated, it'll snap axles, kill tranny internals, snap motor mounts, and maybe even do some internal motor damage. For the fun and thrills it creates by making awesome burnouts, it's not worth the money you'll need to spend once it damages something.

thanks for the info thats what I thought would happen but I didnt think it would mess with the motor mounts but it makes sense now

I don't think it would help you accelerate faster either. the only reason I think someone would try that would be for racing, the bad way for trying to peel out or develop power in the engine before releasing it to the wheels. if you want to race, get a manual tranny then you won't have to worry about all this.

A Level 10 or TCI torque converter upgrade with a 2800 RPM stall speed will work just as well if not quicker than a 5-speed for a good launch. ;)
