Help, guys... which one is a better for the money and performance (with no mods) if you had a choice???
I have been waiting for the 350 to drop in price; Love the car in all aspect of it... but I like awd too.... that's the dilemma.....!
thanks.

Depends on if you want a 4 door or a 2 door. Once you decide that, then youll know your answer, process of elimination.

Well I own two of the three(Evo and 350Z) and driven all three. Here are my thoughts.
Depends what you want if you are going for performance it goes like this:
Stock
Evo 350Z Srt4

0-60 4.9 0-60 5.4 0-60 5.5
1/4 13.5 1/4 13.9 1/4 14.0

These are the stock car times of the exact cars that I drove, I got these numbers using the Beltronics Bel Vector Performance Timer/Accelerometer which they say is just as accurate as going to the 1/4 drag strip. After testing it stock I got parts for my 350Z, which were Nismo intake headers and exhaust. I tested it again once the parts were installed and it dropped the 0-60 to 5.1 and 1/4 mile 13.7 so I recommend those parts if you get that car.

If you are looking for a chick magnet sports car it is hands down 350Z no question about that.

Bottom line either car you chose your getting a killer deal and if your into modding cars go with the evo or srt4 turbos are very easy to mod. Good luck hope I helped.

Thanks for your help. These numbers will help determine which car I should sign my life to...
re: 350z; is this car to mod?
re: evo8; have you done any mods to this car?
which car do you favor more in terms of performance and driving...?
thanks again.

It's not that the 350Z is hard to mod its that it is expensive to mod. It does have a wide variety of mods its just the the expensive. On the other hand the evo has TONS of mods and when you talking turbos you could very easily mod them. My parts for the Z and installation came to about 3000. If I put that in the evo I could easily be runnin low 12's.

No I don't have any mods for my evo but I very soon will. I know people that do and it doesn't take much to get that car flying.

When it comes to driving both of the cars they are very different. They both have tight suspensions so you feel the bumps and everything on the raod. When it comes to speed the Z has it pretty much at any rpm's where the evo needs to be in the higher rpm's for the turbo to be pulling. So the Z feels more gradual and the evo is normal till about 3500 rpm then it totally kicks in. Bottom line your not going wrong either way.
They both handle beautifully and brake excellent. Your in a win win situation.

If your gonna drive it all year round and live where it snows the evo will have to advantage due to the AWD.

I'm guessing the Z sucks in snow?

just change the tires and itll handle fine. but if you can afford a 350z then you can afford a winter beater. if i could afford a 350z id sell blood to afford a civic just for bad weather so my 350 will never see bad weather.

i heard no one talk bout the srt4 its the cheapest car in the line up and with not be spanked but either of the other two. this srt4 will out run a lot in stock form. its is the fastest car for the buck right now. but any of the 3 should make a speed demon happy.

Personally i have worked on SRT4's and can tell you it's a damn bang for the buck.

don't get me wrong, i would own the Z33 in a minute....i own a Z31 right now.

but my GF has gotten her 2003 SRT4 down to the mid 12's now.

and with the eibach springs the car is on rails...only down fall is the tires sizes 205mm wide :uhoh:

Did anyone mention all three different drivetrains? Evo=AWD, Z=FR, and Neon=FF. Evo and Neon have 4 doors and room for five/6(?). Z=2 door and 2 seats. Evo and Neon possible all year round. Z should be fair weather vehicle. Evo and Neon have advantage of being turbo'd from the factory. Z has the advantage of a MUCH larger engine. Neon is least expensive. Z is less than an Evo with similar performance from an N/A compared to Evo's turbo. Practicality, style, and passenger preference is up to you. I guess it comes down to who you want to give your money to, the Japanese or the Germans. LOL

Germans, in order to get a quick car from them you have to spend an arm and a leg. there cheaper cars are slow. all that lux. i dont need it give me power windows and door locks and the speed of an srt-4 and im happy.

Mercedes Benz=German company. Mercedes owns DaimlerChrysler. Dodge is a division of DaimlerChrysler Corporation. That's where the 'giving your money to the Germans' comes from.

so be it, the 2.4 liter engine found in the srt-4 is made by hyundai for mitsubishi.

Just came across this thread, sorry I'm late. :p

The SRT-4 Engine is not build by Hyundai for Mitsu as far as I know...

It's built in the good old US of A:
http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/projectcars/0310scc_projneon/

And also from this article:

http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/roadtests/012scc_dodge/index.html

The engine, by the way, is new and based on the 2.4-liter turbo the company has been selling in the Mexican market. However, in the SRT-4 it's radically updated. Still displacing 2.4 liters, it gets new pistons, which are now cooled by oil squirters. Stronger rods and a new cast crank both support the 14 psi shoved down its intake manifold by the Mitsubishi TD04-16G turbocharger. Before reaching the intake manifold, charge air is cooled by a huge front-mounted cross-flow intercooler, which does wonders for the looks of the car.

Gotta keep the thread alive! J/K Seriously, even though the thread is old, I'd thought I'd add. Its a good topic for discussion anyhow.

You just described me. I bought my Civic when I still owned an Integra Type R. A beat up, blue, 1988, 154K mile hatchback. Runs great. I used that to get back and forth to work and on any day its raining or snowing. I ended up trading the ITR for the Z.

I thought about the SRT4 but I wanted to get away from FWD. Besides, as cool as the car is, it still looks like a Neon. It may not be called a Neon, but I'm not fond of its curves either way. I will say this though, BEST bang for the buck, hands down.

I contacted the Mitsu dealer, but never bothered to even test drive the EVO. I already knew its strong points: its the fastest of the three, very easy to mod, and very well suited to daily driving. I really didn't have to worry about daily driving, since I still had the Civic. I also owned a GSX before and I was wary about Mitsus and AWD. Its great for the quarter mile, but after that drivetrain loss is a bitch.

Naturally, I chose the Z. Its the best looking, IMO, and may not be the fastest, but thats what modding is all about. If you can afford to, that is.

well i came across this and thought hey y not....um id deff go for the z, if ur into modds and performance than the z is best of all(assuming u have $$$). the new greddy tt kit for the z is insane, it really saved off a good amount of time. i deff wanna get a z and put the kit on and try it out, or at least test drive the one greddy made if i can find a place thatll let me.im pretty curiouse though about wat rpm the 18g turbos would spool at for the z....cause i was thinkin i might be able to lower the 0-60 and 1/4 time by using 25g turbos instead of the 18g's but i dunno if it would spool fast enough to help, it might hurt the 0-60 instead? i dunno thats y i wanna find out, it would really make the car fly if the 25g's would spool around 3.5k rpm on the z......can u say unbeatable lol

I've been eyeing that kit as well. From what I understand the 18Gs are too big for the application anyway. It boosts a very moddest 5.5lbs. However, the idea is that once you build the internals you can double or even triple the boost... all without having to change the turbos.

Sorry I am new here just reading a little of what you are all saying..Ref: SRT4 EVO 350Z, I have a SRT4 myself, I have not found a car that will keep up with me yet, of course ther are cars out there that will,I just have not found them yet. I have a M5, meny Mercedes, Meny BMW's Vet's and a few VW To my credit. On the stright they have not kept up with me. In the corners, there arn't meny cars that even stand a chance. Not trying to brag just saying the handeling and power is so perfect I just love it. I have had quite a few people wonder what the hell just flew by them on the AUTO BON. I just laugh...
