please help

ok so my friend has a '87 325i convertible, he just recently had it aligned and noticed that since the alignment was done his brake failure light is staying on and his brake lights are not working.. he also noticed that one of the nuts holding the dash panel under the steering wheel is missing?
All the bulbs are good.
so did the mechanic have to take the dash panel out to do an alignment?something with steering wheel maybe? and if so did he possibly unplug something under there for the brake lights?

oh yeah the fuse is good to.
