Secret switch on wheel controls?

On my 2001 Jetta VR6 I have steering wheel controls for the stereo and curise control that light up red with the rest of the car.
Did you know that there is a little push button on the back center of the left (cruise control) switch. If you push it in while the lights are on, the steering wheel controls will go off. Pushing it again turns them back on. Pretty slick.
Sorry if this is common knowledge, I just thought it was cool and no one had mentioned it to me before. I like having the controls lit, but some people find them distracting.
