hey i have a question for all the guys out there who know alot about 350 ci engines. i was considering buyin a 350 sm chev from my auto class . the engine is a 4 bolt main so i thought hat it would be a good engine to put in my nova that i am buying. the only thing thta i was worried about was that this engine was form an 84 or 85 truck that would most likley have smog equipment on it and i was wondering if it would be ok to buy and take off eveything that has to deal withthe smog equipment and would it still run proper.i have heard that if you were to get a motor fromthe 80's or even 70s that if you remove any of this smog stuff that it would run improper .also one more thing i would like to ask if these kinda engines were controlled by any kind of computer that would need to be installed to run it properly. the engine is striped down right now and i plan on puttin some good $$ in to it so it is just the block but it has every thing with it old pistons rods distributer crank cam heads intake it has all that but i want to knwo if i can only remove the heads intake and then it will run fine just like if i was to buy an older 350 from lets say 69. so if any one could help me out it would be much appriciated thanks very much

Go for it, dont worry about the smog stuff if its leagal in your state. The smog stuff your talking about didnt kick in big untill the mid to late 80s and if your re doing it, it wont matter any way. Changing the heads and intake will be good for it, check with your local parts houses to find the new parts to give you what you want to match it for the preformance. Remember to make sure you have a good block to start with. Check casting numbers, there where some really good blocks out there in those years.
