when you stomp on the gas, the car doesn't act like it has 275HP. Its weird because around 4000rpm, regardless of what gear you are in, it feels like a turbo kicking in. What gives?
I already replaced the fuel filter and added some injector cleaner to the tank with no results.

In case anybody is interested. I replaced the fuel pump and the problem is gone. One piece of advise DO NOT let the dealer convince you that you need a new fuel controller when you replace the fuel pump. This is a $500 part and the dealer wanted $1100 total to replace the pump and controller. I replaced the pump myself in a little over 2 hours and I am definetly not a pro. Pump cost about $240 so I figure I saved over $800. I fanybody is interested, I can post some simple instructions for replacing the pump. Just let me know

Where did you get the fuel pump? And how where you sure this was it?

I contacted my dealer and he indicated that it doesn't make sense that it is the fuel pump and odds are it is actually the timing.

I'm not ready to plunk down $250 if it has no impact. My memory may be failing but I thought this car had more pep. It is acting as you described, but it could just be the cold weather.

If you hear it running, it is the fuel pump.

Extensive posts at NICO about R&R and diagnosing the fuel pump and FPCM.

I don't hear the pump. So, that is good and the first step. I will check the nico group.

Two issues may be possible. One is that is the timing and two that its the transmission. It performs better in the higher gears. Maybe it is not downshifting or it is starting or getting stuck in 3rd. More exploring necessary, but it just seems more sluggish at the light.

Probably not the timing. Does the dealer have an Infiniti Senior Tech originally trained on the Q45 in 1989?

If it is a 1990-1992, it will not start in first unless it is WOT or manually selected, without an appropriate 1993 or JWT TCU.

These cars are not fast from a standing start, but are great from 50 - 90 mph and above.

I have a Q45 and I think it's the fuel pump problem. I would like to replace it myself so to save some bucks. I realy appreciate if you could walk me thru the process in replacing the fuel pump. Thanks.
