The other day I was driving around Eugene, when out of the corner of my eye I just saw a glimpse of a Ferrari 275. I pulled around to check it get a real look at it, and when I did, to my dismay it was not a ferrari at all, but rather a 69 opel GT. I was still happy to see this it. I think it's gorgeous.
The GT had two optional engines, both 4-cylinders. The 1.1 liter put out 67 horsepower, and the 1.95 put out 95 to 102 hp. Neither were powerhouses, but great handling gave made it a great sportscar.
I've also heard of people dropping in newer 350's. With the aluminum block and EFI of the more modern engines, spacial constraints can easily be dealed with, and will actually be lighter than the stock 1.95 litre! Imagine that!

Yeah it's a hot car...
Do you know how much it weighs? I've been trying to find the stock curb weight for a while now.
I was actually talking to someone who dropped a fully tuned twin supercharged LS1 (and I mean FULLY tuned, like carbon composite pistons and such) into a 72 GT. Puts about 700 hp to the wheels. He also reworked suspension and that sort of thing and apparently it's a very quick car. I know it's really light too...but I can't find the weight anywhere.

One of the prettiest cars to emerge from the 60's, with just-right chromework, especially in those wonderful GM astro-metallic paints. Corvette style on a 4-banger budget! I've often wondered how they'd go with a Mazda rotary (if you could stand the 'blatt').

In the true spirit of pointless trivia, GM came close to making a '6 cylinder Vette' as well. Try this link for Holden's similar effort (3.1 litre triple-carb) which A-L-M-O-S-T made production in 1970. Even the sales brochures were printed up before it was foolishly cancelled at the 11th hour.
