How to use Pegasus 23" Rims with other wheels
The 23" Sleeves and tyres can be bought from http://www.pegasushobbies.com/rims.htm

http://www.spc.org.uk/wheels/pegasus/pegasus-001.jpg

Take your standard Tamiya, Fujimi or Aoshima wheel.
(Tamiya Nissan Skyline wheel shown)
and cut the wheel in half or less using a hand saw etc.

http://www.spc.org.uk/wheels/pegasus/pegasus-002.jpg

As the rim will not fit on you will need to reduce the outside diameter
of the wheel to fit, I do this by placing the wheel into an electric drill
and filing or turning it down, don't press to hard or you could break the
central shaft off the face.
Keep checking the fit, if it goes too small it's no good at all.
The internal diameter of the Pegasus rims are tapered towards the front
radiused face, so watch which side you are using.

The wheel on the left has been turned down just enough to fit.
the one on the right is standard.

This is showing the finished rim/wheel conversion
it would seem that only 18 inch rims will fit as 17" or lower are too small.

This is the same idea used on Fujimi's Volks Racing 18" TE37

Great tutorial Steve. Now we can have deepdish wheels on wheels that aren't offered as such. Bad part is the rims are out of stock right now at Pegasus online shop.

Questions, how does a 23" wheel look on a car? I mean, in real life, I couldn't imagine a 23" wheel on a Skyline. It would look wrong, too excessive, but in scale terms it might be acceptable. Do the inside wheel wells need to be removed or anything else to allow fitment of a 23"?

Does this require any additional modification to the chassis so that the extended dish/lip doesn't protrude past the wheel arches?

Thanks, i had some idea of how you did this but you answered my question as to how the rim stays and doesn't slide around freely! I'll give it a try though i imagine a 23" wheel is a little excessive on most cars. Thanks! :bigthumb:

I hope this makes sense, but the answer is they are just bigger than 20" @ 1:24.

As for the width they are 12.66mm and a Tamiya Skyline Wheels is 13.52mm so they are narrower. As a referance an Aoshima 19" wheels is 12.95mm.

Actually they have them in stock. I e-mailed Pegasus last night about them. They said that the website is not always updated right away. You have to call them and place your order. I got 4 sets just this morning.

I have a set of 24" rims and the size is barely different from the tamiya LMGT-4 found in the R34 GT-R VSpec 2.

In the real world it's pretty hard to tell if the rims on a car is 18 or 19, 19 or 20. In 1:24 its barely noticable at all.

Great article, Steve! I've already added it to the How-to depository.

If I get a chance this weekend, I'll print this thread and take it to show Pegasus. Would you like me to include your email so they can credit you? :D PM me! ;)

I dont quite get this?@ :eek7: ... So it is a 23" sleeve? yet tamiya 18's fit in it.?? Does it just make them have dish? or does it actually make them bigger? cuz those look awesome!!! :naughty:

Let me verify it for u, the inside diameter of the sleeves are 18's but the diameter outside are 23's. But whut Steve said they are really only 21's.

Right I hope this helps. If your standard rims are less than 20.04mm outside diameter, they will not fit. A Tamiya Skyline wheel is 20.90mm o/d, therefore can be turned down to fit.
Thanks
