Okay Hello Everyone.
Okay here is the deal. I have a 90 Civic Lx. with a d15b2 engine. Okay well im 17 and swaping an engine is well, i could do it but my parents wouldnt approve. So all ive done so far to it is like cold air intake, exhaust headers. What would the best mods be to my car that can gain hp that wouldnt be very expensive a piece. Okay i will spend as much as i can on my car but for thing s that cost like a couple hundred a piece. Not like buying a 1400 turbo set up. I would really appreciate any sugguestions. The only thing that im starting collect the pieces to is to do a MPFI swap from an si. Thanks A lot for your guys help.

uhh, i'm no expert but i think mpfi and better ecu would be just about it if your don't want to go turbo or supercharger.
for example adding on a different head perhaps from a 92-95 si to give yourself a vtec, but that depends on how many miles you have on your engine, also it will make your engine unreliable, unless you rebuild your engine. that's called a Minime swap if you don't know, search the forum for more info.
you could also ask about changing the cam shaft and porting the engine, but dude your lookin at a lot of work for not a lot of results if you can't do an engine swap.
there are a whole lot of people who swear by their d series engines. come on everyone add more i know this doesn't even scratch the surface.

Ok thanks Man. Yeah i was reading about swapping the head. Mine only has 76k miles on it. What do you think would be the best head. People have told me and i have read swaping it with a d16z6 or d16y8. I looked on ebay and ones that were in good shape with low miles were going for about 250-300. Good deal or not. How much hp gains do you think will come from swapping the head. In other words how worthwile is it.
Thanks For all your help How to hear from some people soon

Oh yeah i also read about the turbo which i would be willing to. I read up on homemadedurbo.com and they said use a RHB5 from a Mx-6. What are your guys thoughts on this. I think i could be able to pick one of these up at the junkyard. Or should i look for a newer one on ebay.
Again Thanks
Again Thanks

Nitrous is always a quick fix option, just don't be dumb and run like a 100 shot on stock block. There are sneaky pete systems that use like a 25 and 35 shot jet, i think that would be okay for your engine till you build up your bottom end for more boost, whether it be nitrous or FI. Just don't expect a whole lot out of a NA D series engine

Z6 head swap, MPFI conversion, 4-1 header, full exhaust, ZEX 59300 cam.
with the 1.5 block, you'll have higher compression than a z6 due to the flat top pistons, plus 1.5 has a shorter stroke, which is less torque, but thereotically, a 1.5L VTEC beats a 1.6 VTEC (SOHC) after about 7000 rpm. (they are pretty evenly matched before then..)

76k miles?? damn that's good low milage on that engine.
Speaking from personal experience... I know you want to do SOMETHING to your car to make it faster... but the most I would suggest would be the MPFI change over.
As far as anything else goes, since you are so young and that engine has so little milage on it, I would drive that engine like that and just be saving my money up... then after you're older and don't have to pay attention to what mommy and daddy say as much, you'll have a hell of a lot of cash saved up to do an engine swap, turbo, or anything else you may want to do.
But that's just my personal suggestion.... that's what I wish I had done.

Not really worth it. To mod it costs a lot of time and money and the results will be disappointing. Just do an engine swap. My Dad was proud I was able to swap my engine by myself. So I see no reason your parents would disapprove.

ok yeah i dont think its that my parents would dissaprove it think its more the fact that i take the old one out and put a new one in and i screw up somewhere and it doesnt work. Well thanks any mor possibilities? otherwise im probaly going to do th mpfi swap and the head swap.
thanks again

If my opinion matters, i think it is worth it to do the head swap. Your engine has low miles, its a great candidate.

Okay that probaly what i will do. How hard is it to wire vtec and to wire the head using and obd1 when i have an obd0
91civicDXdude
10-25-2003, 02:49 PM
to wire up vtec, it really depends on how you are going about hooking it up. most SFC and rpm switches come with insructions, just hook up the lead output to the one wire for the VTEC solenoid. leave the VTEC pressure switch unhooked, you wont need it unless you go OBD1.
other than that, the head is a direct swap, make sure you remove the oiljet from the block, its a small brass circle in the middle of the block on one side, you'll see it. thread a screw into it and pop it out. bolt the head on using 92-95 d16z6 head gasket and timing belt, and you're good to go.

and here's a nifty list of 4g civic and 2g crx info sights, should answer a good bit of questions you might have.

i can't remember who has it but someone on here wrote a very complete and simple and easy to understand. i will be searching for it and get back to you, because i thein the mpfi is the best simplest way to upgrade your civic, i mean you already have a tachometer (you bastard i want it and i want it now, ok ignore that i'm jellous) mpfi should give you a rather nice boost in hp.
