Our 1987 Daytona has just won the prize for odd behavior! It will start, however if you do any of the following it will electronically shut off;
1. Step on brake
2. Put in forward or reverse (shuts down even before transmission engages)
It will continue to run if;
1. Turn on headlights
2. Use electric mirrors
3. Use Electric windows
Battery is new, coil, condensor, wires, plugs, rotor also new.
The codes alternate between nothing and 11,12,22,23.
Truely baffeled!! Any thoughts?!?!
Thanks

i will give it a try:
try replacing the engine computer
try replacing the distributor wires/cap or the whole distributor
check for vaccum leaks ( dont ask me how, becuase i already asked if anyone knows how)
are those SMEC codes?
if they are, according to my manual:
11=engine has not been cranked since battery was disconnected
12=memory standby power loss
22=coolent temperature sensor circuit faulty
23=throttle body temperature sensor circuit fualty
i dont think they have anything to do with this problem, becuase my SMEC shows 11,12,23 and mine works jes fine :)
i would say its probably a fault or short in the engine computer.

Try changing the power module... It's the black box with two plugs on the for driverside under your hood.... youre intake runs through it. This box has the mas sensor, but it also controls were all the power goes in your car. It's kind of a stupid design, but 90% of electrical problems can get traced back to there. The ecu inside the car wouldn't have anything to do with it

ehy shelby charger, why dont you check out my posts and help me out a bit, you seem to know what your talking about.. and nobody else will reply for some reason.. There the ones about the rough engine, and vaccum leak

HI,
Replaced the power module (computer under the hood not the logic module under the kick panel).
The Powerloss light flashes rapidly at time and not at all other times, I can't seem to get a coherent code out of it. Occasionally I'll get an 11 or 12 which are meaningless but more often a 55.
So the current symptons are as follows;
1. No Spark anywhere.
2. No fuel.
We, of course, have tried force feeding fuel anyway to no avail.............
It's still a sick puppy!!
:rolleyes: HHHHEEEELLLLPP!!!

was it doing that befor? no spark and what not? you might of gotten the wrong module for your car! I think theres 4 and they all look exactly the same, ones for carburated, 1 tbi, 1 for turbo 1 and 2 and 1 for turbo 3 and 4. If the syptoms have changed then it's the power module, either you've gotten a bad one, or the wrong one!! Make sure there isn't a prob with the coil, give it 12v right off the batt with a spark plug and see if it sparks! If you put the wrong module in, youre gonna have to cahnge some fuses and possibly some fuse links wich are in a wire harness just under the hose that goes from the power module to the intake, you'll have to pull the battery to get to those. I should have told you to make sure it was the right module, sorry man!
55 in the codes means end of message, it should always flash 55 after it has given you all the registered codes, but if it's flashing rapidly, then it's deffinatley the module!

Well, the saga continues..... Power module is correct, symptoms are unchanged, we started tracing wires and checking for continuity.
One relay has us quite baffled, there are two on the shock tower and one other just ahead of them on the inner fender. That one on the fender is not identified in the book. All systems, Horn, starter, lights and so on work with this disconnected. It also is not getting energized by the voltage going to it. We have, of course, tested it outside the car and it appears to work well.
We are getting a variety of voltages going to it. 8v, 12v, and 3v, none of the five wires going to it are grounds??
Still Baffled..... :mad:

One on the inner fender, 5 point relay?? fog lights maybe, can you show me a pic? Are all these voltages on the same wire? There needs to be a ground for the relay to energize....weird, I need more info!!

sounds like the relay hes talkin about is the automatic shutdown relay...

the other two relays are the starter relay and the fan relay
hope this helps somewhat
