So I installed the transmission myself. The clutch stays fully engaged. I figured I put the clutch plate or release bearing in backwards. Now the truck is at the shop. I put a new clutch in it, and an entire new slave cylinder system - it comes with the new clutch master cylinder, hose, slave cylinder, and the clutch rod that goes into the clutch fork. The shop gave me some relief - they said the clutch plate and release bearing are in correctly. Then they aggravated me. They said the bleeding of the clutch system could take upwards of 4 hours. They called 3 other transmission shops and they said yes, it does take a few hours. The people I called never heard of such a thing and are insistent that the release bearing or clutch plate is still in wrong. Could someone shed some light on this? The shop wants me to okay them spending 4 hours at $75.00 per hour bleeding my clutch and making sure they get paid for their labor. Please, someone tell me what to do.
Thank you very much,
-Chris

Can't help you, but maybe you can help me... I also have a 1993 S-10 4.3L TBI w/ 5-speed tranny and it whines pretty loud. It seems to me that the clutch assembly needs to be replaced, but I do NOT know how to do this. Is it hard to do on your own? Can you or someone tell me how to do this work....any pics, tips, etc...I sure would appreciate it.

If it takes 4 hours to bleed a clutch somethings still not right . Tell them youre gonna go to a competent shop. Ive been doing transmissions for9 years and the only time it takes longer than half an hour to bleed is if you still have a hydraulic leak or a faulty part.
