Is my turbo dying??

I bought my car about four months ago and when I got it, it felt REALLY fast, but now I don't know if the car is slowing down or if I am just getting used to it, but it don't seem as fast until I race other cars and they just fade away in my mirror...
Here is something I noticed... today I had my boost controller on its low boost setting of 14psi. Under 100% throttle, my pillar pod gauge read the usual 14psi, but I glanced at my stock boost gauge in the instument cluster and it wasn't even hitting the + yet. I am wondering if my turbo is going out, or I could have a boost leak, or some other factor that could be making this happen...
Thanks... -Boosted Eclipse-

I'll bet your getting used to it. I I Dynoed 400 whp on pump, and it feels slow to me. It always seems to be getting slower ;)
The stock guage isnt telling you anything, so dont feel bad about completely ignoring it. In fact, if you had a boost leak, it would make the stock boost guage go higher than normal, since all it is based on is airflow (which goes up for a given pressure psi when there is a boost leak, unless it is before the MAF, in a blow through configuration). So I am inclined to say what your seeing is normal. But when you say that 14 psi is your "low" setting, I get nervous. What is your normal setting? Anything over 16 psi is not only unproductive based on my own research, but shortens the life of the turbo. If thats as high as you go, I would bet you are just getting used to it. But without being able to compare track times or dyno numbers to previous figures, its hard to say....

you are just getting used to it. i swear my ride was faster when i first got it, and now with more than a couple grand under the hood i feel the same as you, but i completly smoke the civics that used to almost keep up with me before...lol...
as far as your turbo goes... how many miles on it? how rough has your ride's life been? one of the fist things you will notice will be a scream like when i [explicitive] the [explicitive] out of ... nevrmnd
it will scream real loud like it hurts...

The turbo is a big 18g and it has about 7000 miles on it. The previous owner beat the shit out of it. I can tell becuase I has to spend alot of money on maintinence like motor mounts and a new cv shaft and brakes etc.

Those things you mention are normal wear items. As for the turbo, I had assumed stock t25. Take off the inlet pipe, and grab the shaft ( :eek7: ) If you can wiggle it around a lot, it may be bad. Some movement is perfectly normal though, so its a judgement call. I'll bet its fine. ;)

16 psi on just about any turbo = to or bigger than a 16g is probably going to feel slow. Get some supporting mods, a logger and something to tune with and start turning the boost up! I'm willing to bet that turbo doesn't even get good til at least 18 psi :) .

about how many miles does a turbo last?

Depends on the turbo and how the car it's installed on is driven and maintained. 14bs and T25s typically last longer than 16gs and bigger, mostly because 16g and bigger guys are into going fast and driving faster, thus running higher boost and wearing out the turbo sooner.
I would check for boost leaks on your car, btw. If your gauge is reading 14 psi, you can't have a major boost leak, but you should still check.

You brought back this thread from one year ago just to ask this? I doubt the guy even remembers what it sounded like. And ease up on the teen speak, I count one "u" and 3 LOLs. English please. ;)

Now you're being stupid. You didn't bring back this thread because there is a problem in it similar to yours, or any other similar good reason. You asked for a decription of the sound. It was a year ago, so you weren't trying to help the guy.
Do you really think we are this stupid?

Well generally you don't brign back any posts over a year old, generally it's a 3 month rule. If you find one that old that doesn't answer your question just start a new one and state that you checked but the old one didn't have your answer. Also, I doubt you'll get too popular if you can't control yourself, you flipped out on your second post here.

well i have gotten yelled at three times for starting a new thread and not searching and this time i SEARCHED and people STILL arent happy. LOL! doesnt make the least bit of sense to me but maybe thats just me lol and i never heard of forums that have rules like that! lol i have been to many other forums than this one and they dont have rules like that, i think that is just your rule

It varies from each subforum on AF. The honda/acura forums don't care how old the thread is as long as your topic is related. Here people just like it to be fairly current because information could have changed since then and would like to keep everything up to date.

Sorry never had it happen, my car just stumbled one day. I would tell you but I don't want to guess and give you the wrong idea. And yeah you can just quote me on the 3 month rule thing if you want lol.

You're best off taking it to a few mechanics get some different ideas what it may be. Make sure to take it to more than one otherwise that sound might be you needing a new engine, body panels and anything else they can try to con you into.

That's not something I would say to Kevin if I ever wanted my questioned answered!!! I am not starting shit or anything, but there are some people here that you don't want packing up and going to another forum. Kevin is one of them, so please don't be an ass. Thanks!
