What's up fellas, i'm new here but i was hoping you guys could help me out, a friend has a 00 Xterra and she had a tune up done, wires, dist cap, fluid and all that crap done, however they didn't change the plugs, so she leaves the shop and a day later the engine light comes on.... two errors p0235 and p1148, knock sensor and malfunction with the air/fuel mixture..... any help is appreciated, i know if the plugs were new and weren't capped properly that might give a knowck sensor error, but the plugs weren't changed, can it be a result of the wires? how about the other error? what would cause that?
thanks again.... :icon16: :iceslolan

Well plugs don't get changed for 100,000 miles. But more importantly the work should be guaranteed for 30 days, so have her go back in and get it fixed.
BTW, why do you have the error codes? Did you pull them or did the shop tell you? And if the shop told you, why didn't they fix it, or are they just as confused? :uhoh:
There are some pretty common scenarios where Xterras have had knock sensor errors. Do a search and you should find some info.

i have the codes since i went to autozone and used their diagnostics computer.... what i hate is that shops nowadays will want to change the sensor automatically and claim that the tune up they did have nothing to do with the errors she had.

Please help. My daughter's 2000 Nissan Xterra started missing and shaking when started. Check engine light soon is now flashing. Code reflects 33-knock sensor bank 1. Mechanic wants to replace knock sensor. Nissan dealership can't get to it until next week but says do NOT drive. I've been driving it under 45 per the first reply from the Nissan dealership.

What is the OBDII code(s)? "33" is not an OBDII code. If you don't have access to a code scanner, ask the dealership/mechanic which you mentioned in your post.
A severly misfiring engine will kill the catalytic converts; this is the reason the dealership advised you not to drive the vehicle.

Just got word this am from the dealership. A fuel injector has been staying open pouring gas into engine. They advise replacing that as well as all spark plugs at this time. We're going to go ahead and have the dealership fix because of the time frame we're in right now. Thank you.

FYI....If your under 60,000 miles, the fuel injector repair is warranty. Not the plugs though.

Doggone it, we've got 62,000. They are fixing a recall as well though. Thanks for the heads-up.

3 Or 4 Of The Injectors Are A Snap To Replace. Easy To Get To I Mean. Then Have Autozone Clear The Code After The Repair. Or Just Pay The Dealer, Your Choice.

Only 2 of the injectors are easy to replace. All 3 on the driver's side are tough to get at, and the rear one on the passenger's side is underneath a hard fuel line.

Yeah your right. I remember finding the one that was bad on mine needed the plenum removed. If it was one of the 2 easy ones, I would of just thrown it in, just to save the headache of dragging it all the way to the dealer for the warranty repair, bum a ride to work, the dito in the afternoon to pick it up.
