Not Starting without Gear Shift Movement -- Help!

I have an 1989 Ford Taurus that has been exceptional for me except for this one reoccurring problem. Occasionally, the car will not turn over. This seems to happen in cold weather more often than warm weather. To start the car, I have to turn and hold the key in the ignition position while adjusting (moving) the gear shift between "Park" and "Reverse" slowly until it catches. If it catches the car starts right up and I have no problems. If it doesn't catch, I'm stuck. This happens sporadically, more now and more often, and enough to be considered a problem. It is not the starter and there are no electrical problems. Auto places seems to have a problem identifying the problem. I know I am not the only one who has had a problem like this. Please help.

Thank you!

tHE TRANSMISSION SAFETY SWITCH MOUNT IS LOOSE/BROKE
tHIS SYSTEM TELLS THE STARTER THE CAR IS IN PART, SO IT WONT START IN GEAR!!
lOCATION OF SWITCH CAN BE IN DIFFERNT LOACTIONS, BUT MOSTLY IS ON THE SHIFTER ARM, REMOVE THE CONSOLE IF BETWEEN SEATS,

GO TO LIBRARYAND CHECK THE BOOK, BUY A SERVICE MANUAL ON EBAY,ETC...
GOOD LUCK
