This car started out life as a MPC 1/25 scale "Night Stalker" kit.

http://www.maxrpm.com/stalker.jpg

I then converted the IRS suspension and installed a narrowed 9 inch rear from the AMT kit "Double Whammy"

http://www.lincolnmotorsport.com/doublewhammy.jpg

Heres the rear being test fitted.

http://www.maxrpm.com/vg6.jpg

Then I started to figure out what to do with the front end? Leaf spring? Coil spring uni-leaf? 1/4 eliptical set up? Well I decided to go with the Coil spring uni-leaf that I stole from a JoHan 1/24 "Hawaiian" Top Fuel Funny Car. I used the entire front end set up including the KILLER Halibrand wheels (My personal favorite front wheel). In these next few shots the car is just being test fitted to it's new suspension.

Please note the engine pictured is NOT the one Im using.

http://www.maxrpm.com/vg4.jpg

http://www.maxrpm.com/vg5.jpg

I was originally going with a nitromethane, 10-71 blown, Hilborn injected small block Chevy.

Then I remembered that I started the "Double Whammy" kit and only had the engine done, so I figured "why not?" and then began to test fit the twin supercharged Hemi into the Vette. YUM !!

http://www.maxrpm.com/vg3a.jpg

http://www.maxrpm.com/vg4a.jpg

http://www.maxrpm.com/vg5a.jpg

The rear tires are from the MPC "Malco Supervette" Kit. The rear wheels are from an original AMT "Mummy Machine" kit.

The paint consists of Testors Gold, then Boyds bright pearl green then its topped off with Boyds transparent candy green and 2 healthy coats of Testors clear.

http://www.maxrpm.com/vg2a.jpg

I cannot wait to finish this Car. I borrowed the decals from MPC's "Lil' Gasser" and Im going to call it "Nitromethane"

http://www.maxrpm.com/vg6a.jpg

Wait until you see the interrior!!

Looks good, my only suggestions would be to lower the front, and shorten the diff/ tub it so all the wheels are inside the arches. :smokin:

Its a vintage 60's Gasser. That's how a Vintage 60's Gasser sits and looks. This is the look Im trying to achieve. This is Old school.
Sorry Im a Nostalgia Drag Fan.

Awesome idea! although the paint is awesome I don't think it is period correct (cars of this time with that paint were mostly customs) it looks awesome though. can't wait to see more!

cool idea, looks like youve captured the feel of a 60's gasser perfectly with the mad suspension and huge wheels. Engine looks insane :smokin: and i love the colour! Cant wait to see the finished model!

Why do they sit up in the front like that? Does that help them go faster or something?

Great work so far. Keep us posted.

Nope, guess again my Friend. Its dead on period correct.

This is the car that inspired my Kit. My paint is quite custom. It is 3 different colors.

The engine is higher up and back slightly and the suspension is up to push more weight to the rear wheels for traction.

Two gassers on the boards in one week. Crazy.

Looks like you had alot of rare kits around. (except for the double whammy, unless its an orgional kit [AMT re-released old kits with the old box art, among them are 65or64 Lincoln Continental, the double whammy, and a couple of other classic drag cars, like some nova kits, come to think of it..AMT also just re-re-released])

Yes I do have alot of vintage kits.

I mostly buy what I had as a Kid. I look through my old photo albums from the mid Seventies to the early Eighties and go on Ebay and hunt them down.

I do have an original Double Whammy kit as well as the reissue. I got lucky on Ebay, this guy was selling an original right when the reissue came out and most people must have thought it was a reissue because it had no bids? I put in a bid of $9.99 and get it!!!

Heres a shot of the two. The original is on the left.

Heres a few tight shots of the engine. I used a Parts By Parks distributor kit and boots. I hand made the fuel system and lines. The lines are made from "Trim-It" chrome elastic cord. This stuff is awesome. Its super easy to use, glue friendly and cheap as hell!!

Check it out. These were taking prior o touching it up.

Man I should scan the pics of the kits I had in the seventiies, and I wrecked them all.

Heres the lates shots as of today.

Heres the interior. Sorry for the crappy pics but its pretty basic and box stock except for the shifter I robbed from a Lindberg 1/25 scale "71' Mustang Street Machine" kit.

I also added the bare metal foil to the roll bar for some flash.

http://www.lincolnmotorsport.com/vg8.jpg

http://www.lincolnmotorsport.com/vg9.jpg

Hers the latest on the suspension. Remember I had already settled on the uni-leaf straight axel setup.

http://www.maxrpm.com/vg1.jpg

Well here it is with the mono-leaf/uni-leaf spring installed. Next will be the shocks.

http://www.lincolnmotorsport.com/vg12.jpg

I also figured out where the engine will be placed. I set it nice and far back, I already have a driveshaft that fit the length perfectly (lucky).

I also added the trac-bars for the straight axel setup. There from the "Lil Gasser" kit by AMT, a little grinding and filing and now I have some seriously wicked 60's style trac-bars! Check it out.

There are many as well as many variations of the same kit. I think MPC did this one three different ways.

Heres a couple of shots of the handmade front end really coming together. Here the tie rod is assembled and runs through the style holes in the trac-bar's perfectly.

Heres the chassis progress. I added the stabilizer bar to join the ladder bars in the rear. the ladder bars are from a 70's AMT Pinto kit. Next is a set of wheelie bars from a Revell Willy's pickup Gasser.

http://www.lincolnmotorsport.com/vg22.jpg

Heres the final chassis set. I have all the wheels dead level now and the suspension is perfect.

http://www.lincolnmotorsport.com/vg21.jpg

Heres the no flash shots of the car with the first round of decals added. Checkout the back "FLAMMABLE"! You can't really see it but on the bottom of the glass in the middle it says "High On Octane!" These shots you can really see the "dipped" look of the paint.
