How do I remove clock cluster???

OKay Guys, how do I remove the cluster?? On the left and right side of the steering column there are 2 wood grain finished panels...Do they clip in?? or are they held down by screws?? Once those are removed I should be able to see all the screws that hold the black plastic border that goes around the cluster....Next question is, if I remove the cluster completely , disconnecting all the cables going to it....Will the odometer reading still remain the same? I've been told by BMW that a dot could appear when I re-connect it , meaning that the cluster was tampered with....I obviously don't want that....
