temp light is on

i have a 2.8lt 89 grand prix. For some reason the engine temp light comes on as soon as the car is started, and does not go off. the car isnt overheating, the temp gauge rarely goes even halfway up, but the temp light doesnt go off. the only exception was this morning it was fairly cold and it was off when i started the car, but after 20 seconds or so it came back on. Also when i was on the highway I got up to around 90-95 it went off again but came on when i slowed down a bit. I replaced the thermostat and drained/flushed/refilled the antifreeze, any ideas?

That year model W body car was bad about cluster problems..warning lights would come on, flicker and do all kinds of strange stuff....most likely cause..bad cluster.

You could try removing the negative wire from the battery,then putting it back on,that might work.

couple of questions..

1. whats a cluster?

2. why would removing the battery and hooking it back up do anything? does it clear the ram or reset the computer in ther car?

thanks for the tips tho, i thought i might have a serious/expensive problem on my hands.
