Hi everybody, got a quick question. Im buying a 1995 Eclipse GST from a friend. It has a prob. my friend parked it at work and when he came out after work it would not start. when he would try to start it it would make a clicking sound. very rapped clicking. just wondering what this could be. Is it something major or minor. im buying the car in a week and would like to know what i am getting myself into. Thanks

well need you to get a little more descriptive than "clicking sound. very rapped clicking". will it try and fire?? whats your battery voltage, are you getting spark to all the cylinders? some more details would help.

well im just getting it from a friend. he says the car is trying to fire. no idea on the voltage. he thinks in might be a blown rod but that dose not sound right because from what i have herd rods dont go out if the car is sitting. dont they go out when the car is being driven?

it sounds like the alternator if it's a clicking. either that, or maybe his battery died?
Either way, little tip of advice, don't go buying cars from friends, because little problems with the car end up causing problems with the friendship. Buy a car from someone where you can be mad at them about the car since you don't know them. :iceslolan

my civic did the exact same thing. but only when it was sitting in the heat for a long time. it ended up being a shorted fuse in the starter. before u buy it definately get the starter, alternater, and the battery checked. does it start when u push start it? like he said be careful buying from a friend cuz if the car ends up taking a shit on u then that could cause probs between u two.

yup, i say the battery is dead. working fine, and one day: click, click, click, click, click, click... u get it
but really though, how did he get it started? jump? push? how does it run otherwise?...
and i can't agree with Zero more, don't do business with friends... everyone says that for a reason...

A dead battery can cause a rapid clicking when trying to start the car. Its a scary sound since the clicking is the relays under the dash, so it sounds loud ;) Hopefully thats all it is.
