I have heard a lot about these cars and would like to know how fast they really are. I have not ran into one on the street yet but should I be worried. I know they will rip me out of the hole but how fast are they really??? I will be getting a 12 bolt along with slicks so that should help the launcha little.

Hey MistaZ

The New 2004 WRX STI is a true race machine. I have a 2002 WRX, and a friend of mine has a new Silver WRX STI with a full 3" exhaust and cold air intake, and let me tell you it's not to be messed with. He has ripped apart all sorts of cars like Z28, Vettes, Stangs, Porches...you name it...that Fuck#n car flys, and in case your wondering it has plenty of spunk after the quarter mile.

STI (stock) 1/4 mile times are anywhere from 13.6-13.2 depending on the driver. With a full 3" exhaust and CAI...I can assume high 12's to very low 13's.

the STi has 300h/p and 300lb/ft of torque. it runs 13.1 best time ive seen. but with an exhaust and CAI and MBC surely into the 12's. dont even try to touch it... and the fact that is has the thing to control power to front and back (forgot the name)

Are you talking about the center differential? All AWD cars have 3 diffs.

Oh. So it should be a good race. Hey Subaru kid, what does dont even try to touch it mean? My car runs high 12's?????? :wtf: Nice cars though. Thanks guys!!!!

But the STi has a central diff where you can control the output of power between front and rear wheels, I think it's 60% max on the rear.

hmmm...that WRX STi is sounding a lot better than a Baja right now...I'm counting my chickens before they hatch though...Need to get a career going first.

The STi is a phenomenal car, though it's not the easiest car in the world to drive fast. The AWD requires a unique driving style, different from either FWD or RWD toget the most out of it.

A couple of weeks ago, I had both my bone stock STi (stock tires, stock brakes, ok, it has an aftermarket oil filter, but that's it) and my SCCA SSB prepped Miata (DOT track tires, racing brake pads, full welded roll cage, SCCA min wt 2430 lbs with driver, new shocks/springs) at the NHIS road course, and the STI was 5-6 sec a lap faster (1:25.4 for the STi in an earlier session before I'd figured the car out, 1:30.4 in the Miata) and 20 MPH faster at the end of the relatively short front straight (115 vs 95). In the group I was in, there was another instructor driving a well prepped 5.0 Mustang on track tires, and the STi would absolutely kill the Mustang coming off the corners. With a set of track tires and a racing brake pads, the car would be another 3-4 sec/lap faster.

Hey subarukid I spent 14,500 on my car with about 1,500 dollars in mods :nono: . I also dont hive a rats ass about Hondas. In fact, my license plate frame says FUCK IMPORTS! So I dont know why you are telling me about stupid Hondas. Comparing cars money-wise is also very stupid. I can just dump 14,000 more in mods to equal the price of the subaru and then run low 10's all day long!!!! :cwm27: Then someone would say oh I could just buy a used fox body Stang for 4,000 bucks and then dump 26,000 into it and then run 8's all day long!!! You get the point KID. :smokin:

I do believe he has a point. Comparing a car money wise is sort of stupid on some ways. I'd rather have my slow legacy anyday over a lexus or something like that, just because I like it. When I go to buy a new car, I'm gonna be looking at the baja turbos (when they make it over here) and WRXs (maybe STi...don't know). The first car I've owned myself and had no problems (rather than needing a tune-up) from is this Subaru. I'm planning on staying loyal to the brand, no matter how much extra or less it costs. Some like Subarus. Some like Hondas. Some like Chevys. Who cares.

Edit: I just realized I was rambling on about nothing...oh well...whatever works. :screwy:

Any car arguments are always "to each his own." I could buy a '93 non-turbo supra for less than 10 grand, put a relatively new 2JZ-GTE in for 10 grand, and hit 800+hp for 10 grand. We all like what we like.

but that's the point. If he doesn't need, or want, those extra all around abilities, then who cares? Everyone likes different things. There's no real way of saying one car is better than another. Everyone has an opinion of thier own.

exactly the purpose of a test drive.
