Hey, i'm just wondering if this is a good deal. An aquaintance says he can get me a silvertop 20v 4A-GE with transmission, ECU, and wiring harness for 1000 Canadian dollars. I think it is pretty good, but please reassure me.
Also does anyone have any feedback on the stock performance of the silvertop? I'm hoping for atleast decent power, which I assume i'll get from it. Also if possible, could somebody post a few specifications of the motor? I know its 165 hp, but I would like to know the torque, redline, hp peak etc. Thanks in advance.

yea i have one aswell they go sweet :)
if you can get a 93 or 94 engine out of a facelift levin/trueno they have a better matching on the intake-head, if not you should get it match ported, there is alot of ways to set them up, plenty of free flow inlet will give you good high revs but not so good down low, if I race i take it to 8000rpm then change drops me in my best power band, my rev cut is 8500 so yea... costs abit to get xtra power but there is afew easy cheap tricks to get the revs rolling really fast

tourque works mainly on the size of the engine if n engine hasd good flow it will have torque figures of 10 percent of cc engine capacity eg 1600cc/10 =160 this is a good flowin head so it will have 160nm of torque which it does at 5600 rpm n the black top is slightly different with a lil more torque at 5200 rpm oppossed to 5600

Yeah, but the Blacktop is a well balanced engine meaning the interns are lighter, more aggresive cam profile, higher compression pistons 11:1 like ita rival the TYPE R well tuned etc.....so the output of this engine is way better than itz predessor the silvertop........Oh by the way I had a AE101 Levin which comes the Silvertop>>>sold it and got a Bz-R ooooohhhhhhh ssswweeeetttttt with the 6sp gearbox and the infamous BLACKTOP !!!!!!!

it all depends on the year of the silvertop, 91/92 not so good, 93 94 sweet, my car at the moment holds a blacktop no problem with small mods, if your after stock power the black top is the way to go, if you want to get the power rolling a silvertop is better with the slightly heavyer internals, also the silvertop has a closed combustion chamber over the blacktop
the blacktop has a slightly bigger intake cam, silvertop is blanced but blacktop things go even ligher
as for the 91-92 silvertop they are very very badly matched on the inlet onto thehead its let them down badly they have a box like cut out, the later silvertop an blacktop have a teardrop this layout flows alot better and also matches the head better, easly proved in my car, any early moded silvertop I can pull atleast 2car legnths on them by the end of 2nd gear
and the torque toyota has rated the engines the same :/ blacktop has a slightly higher redline, in any race my car's best shift point is at 8000rpm with small mods.
with your BZG since its a 1999 model it is very possable you have an advantage over 95/96 blacktops just like the silvertops, the 6speed is good for track racing holding your revs high, but in a 1/4 its not so flash, also its ratioed to max out at 206km while the 5speed 239km

The Blacktop was introduced as the replacement for the 4age (Z) version which is supercharged as itz quite obvious that both engines have the same hp.

I agree with bz-r owner. The tureno/levin always had three class as far back. Seeing that we are descussing front wheel drive I will start with the ae92. Ae92 had the gt-z (4agze afm,160hp, 14" rims and165hp, jdm only), gt-apex (U.S.A gt-s this had an regular 4age) and the 4a-fe dohc levin efi-s version. This cars was manufactured between 1987 to 1991
This models was replaced by the ae101. The gt-z was still on top with upgraded power(170hp), stock 15"rim and super strut suspension. The gt-apex was also upgraded to the silver top 4 throttle and pushed 160hp, few had super strut and the sj levin remained with the same engine but got the new look. levin/tureno S had an 5a-fe dohc engine. ae101 model was between 1992 to 1995 and never got to the U.S. :disappoin
The bz-r black top, 6 speed, stock 15" rims levin/tureno did replace the gt-z. The 6 speed box provids the torque feel the gt-z had, simalar supension as the ae101 gt-z. then there is the bz-g and bz-v both version simalar but the bz-v is ligther these to replaces gt-apex. The sj version was replaced by the XZ same engine and FX replaced the S version. These model were between 1996 to date.
Personal as a speed lover and excellent driver I would not buy notthing less than an ae101 gt-z or a bz-r. If these cars were sold in the U.S Amercian import dudes would not be buying Civic (apart for the Type-R and those are expensive)

in a way your right and another your wrong... what can I say... you guys have been deprived of the 4age/4agze series leaving you stumped on facts!!!
GZE
there is 3gen's of gze engine the last one was in the late 2years of the AE92(89-91) along with the AE101(91-95) (didnt go into AE111 since 20v making near the same power and N/A been cheaper to insure)
4age
they go back to the days of "bluetop" and "redtop" I think you guys recived some powerdowed versions, then the 20valve Silvertop 91-95
in the years of 93-95 they recived some xtra tunring and better porting making them faster than the 91 and 92's, then on modle change to the AE111 (95-99) same here in 97-99 they recived some xtras along with some safty xtras.
6speed Vs 5speed
The 6speed is best in track use since the closer ratios are good for corners but on a 1/4 mile strip or top speed the 5speed is much quicker, the 6speed tops out at 205kmph while the 5speed pushes onto 237kmph
if I was looking at buying anything again it would have to be a 1993 up AE101 or AE111 and if you think the gze would whip a silvertop 20v semi true at slow speeds but higher up 20v will pull onit, and in my case a stock gze dosnt stand to much of a chance aganst my 20v, and car wise the AE101 has a nicer interior over the AE111
learn people learn!! we have thise cars all over the place here!
you deprived Barstards!

DEPRIVED!!!! :screwy:
Here ther is not much gt-z but AE101 gt-apex, we call them skettels because there are so much. More than 90% of our vehicles are imported form Japan (jdm spec). Deprived!!
I'm sorry to have left out the gt-apex. You were right by saying the 20v did replace the 4agze, not because it was better but cheaper to manufacture. The black top 20v was the revision of the silver top and came later in the ae111.
Yow! you can't go pass force induction. 20v is about been a good driver and not about a fast car. Gt-z Good driver and fast car (not forgeting you can mod a 4agze to get up top end) equals win on the track. On a drag 4agze good or bad driver out performs the 20v. But don't get me wrong gt-apex are nice (sounds wicked), but never give that perforance rush.
An ae101 gt-z and Ae111 bz-r can out perform an civic sir. Now ask your self can an ae101 gt-apex out perform a civic sir.

civic sir... well yes I can... Honda B16* engines tho they can be easly moded to make way more power, weird but I am stating to think there is something outa place with me "factory" silvertop, I raced another one last night and snotted him, raced a 1600cc turbo ford laser (like a 80's mazda 323) an we were equal till 150k's were we backed off from a 0km start sorry about that deprived thing I wasnt meaning you... I was meaning the places it cant be inported, and sure enuff there is a ton of GT-Apex's here to but there is becoming way more AE111 20v's

I personally feel that the only reason why the true output of the 20v Black/Silvertop is not been shown on this side of the world is beacuse it didnt go to the U.S. Now my friend here back home (Jamaica) imported some tapes from Japan and trust me there are tons of performance stuff for the 20v itz jus that it was made specfically for the JDM and not for export. I once heard as Asian saynig that we are very lucky to get these engines over espically the Blacktop cause they hardly ever leave Japan.......If there is some way I can upload picz I can show u guys some these stuff ----------20v ALL THE WAY-------------

nice pic's what kind of cars do you race? I guess you guys dont have a drag strip? full paint job :) , the clear coat on quite afew seams to stuff up on factory paint, the rear and front half have all been repainted on mine so hopfully I dont have a problem.
yea them pic's are when I got my car... I currently have no way of getting some new photos the outside is pritty much the same under the bonet afew changers have taken plave... along with the interior.
yea waiting for the BZG to get out of the police impound yard :( some off duty cop recons she was doing burnouts, she wants she wouldnt even try with 3k worth of wheels ohh and arrested her, so when she gets it back we will give it ago.
The guy with the laser that I raced wants me to enter this seasons night wars and go aganst that car, he also has a modded 1900cc turbo mazda 323 but its FWD its quicker than a GTX.
Also you might like to try some polish on your headlights... it brings them up like new :)
