94 Turbo Setup

Hi, I just had a few questions about turbocharging a 94 civic ex. Then engine is stock right now except for the cheaper upgrades (cold air intake,exuast,header, ect.) but I love the thrill of driving fast and I need more power, im looking to go turbo. Is it cheaper to buy a kit i.e. Greddy Turbo Kit, or just buy all the neccesary parts seperate, also what are all the parts that I would need to run about 14-18 psi, without damaging the motor. Oh and what would be the best turbo to use. (T3,T4,)Also what would be the est. price for that setup, I know its alot to ask in one post but I really could use some help, and you guys seem to know what your talking about. Thanks for the help.

I recently bought a turbo kit from prostreetonline.com. It has a T25 Garrett turbo with it. No intercooler. I haven't put it in yet 'coz they sent me the wrong downpipe and to add insult to injury, it didn't have a hole for the O2 sensor. I would've returned the downpipe, but I didn't want to sit and wait for it any longer (it took them more than a couple of weeks to ship it to me). So, I had to drill a hole in it and weld on a nut and had to have a muffler shop tweak it for me. The kit was just $1650. I guess you get what you pay for. Needboost.com and other places sell this kit, too. I hope the downpipe was the only screw-up the kit has. I guess it's obvious I'm trying to get back at them. hehe. The reason I bought a kit is I didn't want to fabricate and stuff like that. I just want to bolt it on, man.

its better to build your own kit if you know what youre doing. come out cheaper and better usually. as far as the 14psi thing on a d series engine im pretty sure you'll need to do the whole 9 on the bottom end for that one. sleeves, forged pistons and rods, etc. and for a turbo the t3/t4 in a trip suitable for your need is a good choice.

The T3/T4 hybrid will be alittle overkill IMO for only 6-7psi b/c you will not be able to go over that on a stock D series motor. A T3/T4 hybrid is an excellent choice if you are planning on building the motor to handle more than 6-7psi.:2cents:
