z28 to ss

well, i know the differences between a z28 and an SS, and I want an 02 SS, but they are hard to find now at reasonable prices so i was thinking of buying a z28 and buying all of the SS parts from SLP and installing them, i just wanted to know if besides the "special" SLP production number you get from SLP would there be any major difference between the modified z28 and SS?
thanx

Not really, it should be pretty straight forward. Thing is, getting your parts straight from SLP will be very difficult. SLP will only send out SS parts to cars with SS VIN #'s. If you have a buddy that is willing to let you use his, or able to get one off of a car sitting somewhere in a lot, I don't think you'll get the necessary parts. There's no difference between the two cars other than the modifications performed at SLP. The only thing exclusive to the SS is the build number, and more limited numbers.

If I had it to do all over again, if I was straight going for performance, I'd have gotten a Z28. But, I'm still in love with the lines on the SS's, 96-97 and 98-02 :sunglasse

Why if you were going for straight performance you'd get a Z28...I thought SS were fasting in a straght line and better corners?? Please explain... :smokin:

the only difference between z28 and ss is about 10 or 15hp and appearance. thats it

I know all that, and suspension too right...thats why i was asking BlkCamaroSS why he would rather have a Z28 for "straight performance" I just dont understand that....

Mother Faulkner, I typed this whole thing out, and then it didn't post....

First off, the reason that I said I'd take a Z28 over an SS if I was going strictly for performance was because they have the exact same engine, the only differences are what options the SS was ordered with. When you build a car for speed, you're gonna replace intake and exhaust parts, and those are the only hp options that were on a brand new SS. I bought my SS because of it's style and heritage, as well as the performance. As the SS having an upgraded suspension, that is again only if it was ordered that way brand new. You could get the Bilstein upgrade, the shocks are blue and yellow if you do. Otherwise, it was the same orange shocks that came on the Z28 before it was converted to an SS by SLP.

As for an SS only being badging and a hood, options included: several intakes, several exhausts, badging, new hood and spoiler, floor mats, key fobs, deck mat, portfolio with your car's information, and a couple of rim choices. That's alot more than just emblems and a hood...

ok i see what you mean and i totally agree, i would also consider an 02 z28 instead of SS for that reason but i want an SS more just for the bragging rights of having a 35th anniversary SS. but since i cant find a good price for one, the z28 and SLP parts are just getting that much closer to my driveway!

Are you getting an 02 SS, which is a 35th Anniversary car, or an 02 SS LE (Limited Edition) which is the one with the 35th badging, red with silver stripes?

(not convertible, T-top Only!)
Those are the best stripes EVER, IMO.

I'd like to get one of those sometime down the road to keep as a stock, gorgeous car. My current SS gets the goodies...
