fuck, what a lucky bastard. I was told that if I don't get an auto, I would have to pay for the car on my own.

Anyways, I agree with all the points you said. Some families are just more successful than others, it's just the way it works people. Success may mean many different things, but to most, how much money you have determines how much success you have. If you don't like where your financially at, look around and see who is to blame.

Let me let you in on something that is a key to success: EDUCATION, nuff said ;)

Education alone will not bring success, attitude and persistence matter too.Ipity young New Zealanders, under the current rules an education costs a fortune.Unless you are from a rich family, you need a student loan to get a decent education here.Who wants to leave university with a degree,no guarrantees of a job,and a $100,000 debt to repay?

i like wearing prep clothes.. and i guess you could call me "rich"
but that's no reason to hate on all "rich" kids

i used to have that attitude that we're better than everybody, but that's changed.... i don't care where a person's from or how much money they have

before i thought that i would never go out with a poor girl, cause i thought it would be awkward goin to like a country club with her, or introducing her to my parents an friends.
but that was the old naive me.... it really doesn't matter

:lol2: I can't believe this thread is still going.

Anyway, I still stick to my original statement....there will always be the haves and have not's. That is life.

I fall closer to the have not's as far as money and material goods goes, but I have my health and the love of family and friends...and that is what's important.

Just the other day, some kid drove his Lexus SC something (i forget the #'s). And in the middle of winter, when its 20 degrees out, this kid gets in the car, puts the top down, drives around the school, parks his car, gets out and goes to class. What an arse.

Ah, thanks. There is no reason other then, "look at me and my convertable Lexus." He also drives a Maxima with a 2 foot wing, and a muffler (not whole exhuast, just muffler) that looks like it could shoot grapefruits (literally).

i'm kinda worried i'll be too old then for the import scene
Don't worry about being too old for the import scene, it's fairly young and others with the passion will grow old with you.

AM I THE ONLY KID LEFT THAT HAS TO FUCKIN WORK FOR THEIR CAR???
No, your not! I couldn't get my dreamcar until I went into the Marine Corps. Then, I didn't have the money to really do it up right. Fortunately, I focused on my career for a few years and put the dreamcar on hold. At 30 (not as far off as you think!!) I could buy most any car I wanted, do what I wanted to it, and enjoy a nice home, wife, and family. I now have the total package, and didn't have to sacrfice ANYTHING!!
I now own 4 "toys" and get to enjoy them all everyday, because I worked for them.
I too went to school with a lot of rich-kids, none of which have amounted to shit since school!! It's a fact, believe me!! LOL

About 5 years ago I was also angry about all those kids who geet everything they want. Belive me it's useless. The high times will come to everyone of us sooner or later. More important is looking out for some friends you always can count on - no mather who you are what you have and how you look like - else you'll have real hard times:bandit:

It amuses me,but for all the jealousy directed at preps, the preps themselves still have sufficient wishes beyond their means to be just as jealous as the rest of us....Maybe money can't buy long term happiness after all,but short - term I wouldn't mind giving it a try......

I think we all have a desire to have better things than what we have now and to live a better lifestyle than what we already live. Some just let it bug them more than it should. I would like to live better and have better things myself....that gives me motivation to keep up my studies and get crackin' on moving on to a different career.

This can be true to an extent. Alot of times if people know you have $$ they will do stupid shit to try to sue you. i.e. slamming on the brakes so the Benz rearends the Pinto. The rich people that are miserable are the ones that are living beyond their own means and are in over their heads in debt.

Ohhhh, so true! You'd be shocked at how many "well-off" people are out there still living off of their parents at 40 years old! I sold luxury cars for a few years (expensive German ones) and can't tell you how many rotten credit reports I reviewed of people with waaaaayyy more debt than they could afford. They try desperately to "keep-up-with-the-Jones" and really cannot afford to, then hit-up their 70+ year-old parents for the money to buy their wheels for them. These are the people you see that appear to have it all, yet are so miserable and treat others so poorly it makes you wonder why.
With that in mind, use this as a financial template for life - it's really easy;
1 - Never purchase a car that is more than 1/2 your gross annual income
2 - Never let your total monthly expenses (home, cars, utilities, food, etc.) exceed 35% of your gross monthly income.
3 - Save at least 10% of your pay and invest it every payday FIRST, before anything else gets paid!!
4 - Never pull into a Mercedes dealership looking for a new car if you make less than $60K a year - you will be laughed at!!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

There goes half my paycheck right there! :D

Forget Mercedes...the Dodge dealership laughed at me. I got a Neon as a consolation prize though.

In all seriousness though...too many people (rich or not) allow the media to dictate to them what they need to wear, drive, or do to be considered "in" or "accepted" and what not. I too fell into that at one point in my life and racked up a nice hefty debt....which I am still paying for. It is unfortunate, because it only makes one more miserable when bill time comes. For me personally, it took a few life-changing events to grow up and realize life is not about "things", it's about being yourself. And when its time to meet your maker, you can't take those things with you.

Hey, I too took out a car loan. When you crunch the numbers, your borrowing money on a depriciating asset. The average car loses 60% of it's value in the first four years. Add in interest, and insurance costs and you've lost over 50% of your money. The economics do not add up. My grandfather never had a car payment, credit card, or any other debt outside of a mortgage and retired VERY well off.
