I'm debating now weather I wanna keep my civic. I have been looking at this nice 1995 camaro for about 2 weeks. Last night I rear ended someone because they pulled out in front of me. I'm waiting for a check from my insurance company. I dont want to repair it and would like to trade in my civic PLUS my check for the camaro. Would you do the switch? Its a nice metallic blue Z/28 1995 Camaro with 116,000 miles on it for $5,000. For $450 extra I can buy a 5 year waranty which covers the transmission, engine, A/C, and other lil parts. The minute I drive it off the lot they give me a tune up to SHOW me that its ready to go. Meaning... once I buy it they send me to a place where they give it a free tune up. Its a stick shift also (YAY NO MORE AUTO!!!!) Engine looks SUPER SUPER CLEAN! Let me know what you guys think. Help me out a lil like...times, HP between the 2, gas usage.
What is better about the Civic and what is better about the Camaro? Would you make the switch? I dont feel like having my civic repaired but its not a big deal.. just needs a new hood, bumper, corner light, and right fender needs a lil work PLUS all the painting. Bodywork has a lifetime waranty.

reliability - Civic
gas mileage - Civic
hp - Z28
I'm sure the reliability and resale value may have gone down a bit on the Civic now though. Test drive the Z28 and see how you like it. I sometimes wish I had a V8 with some guts. I assume you haven't put any mods or a bunch of money into your Civic, so go for the Z28 man. I've put too much money, blood, sweat, and tears into my car to bring myself to sell it.

mid 90's Z28s are not bad... the LT1 is a pretty nice motor gotta love the sound. I used to drive a 95 v6 Camaro. must say, the bose stereo was nice, seats were decently comfortable... power windows tend to get slow
good job trying to do much under the hood though!!! there is NO room under there. and I do mean none
does it have to tops? gotta love those! :naughty: just don't spray water directly at them and they don't even leak too bad

Get the camaro if its worth it, have it inspected by someone other than the stupid ass dealer. IMO its well worth paying $100 for someone to inpect the used car(95 Z28 = beat to shit), even better if you know someone to do it for free.
I bought Camaro when I was 17, still have it. I've been trying to sell it for a while, but I dont think I ever will. Too bad its got t-tops or I'd set her up for some road racing.
That 95 camaro will be a bitch to work on, where EVERY honda 4-banger is simple as can be. Wait til you have to change the spark plugs. :iceslolan

I gotta admit, I just couldn't get past the redneck image of driving a camaro... that and I just couldn't feel as much joy in having a camaro and beating cars with half the displacement as with my little 1.8L engine dominating 4.6+ L engines.
I guess I just like being the little bitch instead of the big bully =P
sidenote: agreed on getting that thing checked out... The $100 check-up is well worth the $100, doublely so if you know of a mechanic that's really fluent in the beast.

Wanna buy my camaro? White 96 Camaro...Was driven by an old man to and from work every day as a long distance commuter... high milage, but that's due to the long distance commute.
I just picked it up for cheap to get me from point A to point B while I'm fixing my Civic... I can't stand the damn thing though... feels like I'm driving a tank when I'm in it, it's so big and heavy. Sure, if I put my foot to the floor it takes off like a rocket (so will my civic when I'm finished), but driving it just isn't nearly as fun as driving my civic.

Yeah. If I wanted to be dominating the streets (with less $$ than it'd cost to "dominate" in my CRX), then I'd get a 5.0L mustang, or LT1/LS1 Camaro...but how would it feel to beat these little 4 cylinders, when you have double the cylinders, and a ton more power? It's like getting into a foot race with a senior citizen..even if you win..what can you be proud of?
Hell yeah to the Prelude idea! I love the 97 (I think?) and up Preludes. My second car (getting one in the next year), will be a 97+ Prelude, 92-95 civic hatch, or even a 94-95 Integra...

Hey guys, I say get the camaro. I owned a 94 Z28 with exhaust, intake, wires, tb, airfoil, rebuilt tranny, Precision Industries 2800 stall, transgo and more and that car was bad ass. I now own an Ls1(see sig). These cars are a blast. NOTHING beats the raw power of a v8 real wheel drive car. They are sooooooooo much fun. Also, DO NOT EVER GET A PRELUDE, at least the last body style ones. They are slow as f**k!! My friend has a 2001 SH with like 5,000 in mods and when I raced him in my old Lt1 stock I would stomp him like no ones money. He also spent a lot more on the car than I did. Go American man! You wont forget it. :worshippy LT1, LS1

sorry to say but i WILL take any import car over a domestic car anyday, no matter what. i would rather have my 4 cylinder import that can beat the bigger and badder domestics.
lighter car + same amount of hp = faster
i dont care how much i spend thats just the way it is going to be for me

i would take any import over a domestic too, i just like imports, but seriously, a 4 cylinder can only do so much. shit my friend's el camino has a practically bone stock 454 the only thing done to it is 4 barrel carb, and polished aluminum IM. and he's pushing a little over 400 hp in a 4000lb+ car, and it still takes most of the cars around here. wait until it's blown and has a 75 shot and a 10 bolt posi rear end, it'll probably take all of the cars in the neighborhood. I've seen a camaro with a vette engine, i think those are like LS1's(?) not too sure, but it had the vette engine, 6 spd tranny, and Granetelli MAS, and that shit had to be able to run low 13's high 12's, damn this thing was fast

Ok ESP, since your 4 banger is so bad and can beat all the bigger and badder domestics, you mind telling me what you have done to your car? I hope you are putting out at least 500 hp because there are a lot of "bigger and badder" domestics roaming around here who do easily. Also, you can NEVER make the same amount of horse power as me if we both fully built our motors obviously. Nice try. :nono: Man, I love my car!!!! It looks good, its fast as shit, and it sounds bad ass too!!!

which is easier to work on? have fun changing those spark plugs? how about putting on a set of headers? etc...
which gets better gas mileage?
which one wont have little electrical problems like broken window motors, switches, etc. eating you alive every other day?
which one weighs less?
which one looks soooo much cooler when it eats cars like yours for breakfast???
I've dealt with american iron, I have driven them, I have worked on them, I love the sound of a 350 chevy motor, although I personally think the Ford 302 in fox chassis mustangs sounds better.
I would drive a z28, they are fun. but the fact of the matter is they are heavy, the electrical parts are low quality and break all the time (a common problem for almost all american cars) they drive like a tank compared to a honda, and last but not least... THEY DON'T EVEN MAKE THEM ANYMORE

There is no word that you can say that explains why you can justify not buying an american car. Some people have to take a stand and know that American cars do have some power , and the Imports do to, as do the euros. Its kinda funny in a honda forum where people cant see past the ignorance they collect and see a 4.6l Mustang smoking your ass. Or the z28 , or maybe even a 5.0 Mustang. Fast cars man. Why not own them? Give me a good reason.

I'll give you a good reason...A) I pay my own way through college, and wanted something not very expensive with good fuel economy that was realiable. B) Insurence is much cheaper in a Civic for my 24-year old self. C) The word above that justified my not buying the amercian cars above....realibablity...that and too high insurence. Also, the little electrical problems with those cars can and would have driven me up a wall. Not saying they are awful cars, but come one....to say there's no reason to justify not buying an American Car is ignorent. I had a good reason to buy what I bought. The fact it is a japanese car shouldn't matter. And also, this thread is about the guys question, and it's turning into a flame-fest. Look, gas isn't cheap, neather is insurence. When paying for college, textbooks, etc....realiblty was key, as was gas mileage and low insurence cost. That made the civic a winner for the choice to buy in my book. That's why, when I bougnt mine several years ago, I chose it.

IMO Civic's or Camaro's DO NOT look good in stock trim. Civic's & Camaro's are 2 different worlds when it comes to performance. Yea a 4-banger FWD can be faster then a V8 RWD car, but they can't be compared if u ask me. I think RWD superior to FWD, RWD is SO much more fun to drive, rather then fighting torque steer.

ok well this will go on forever like this but lets state the obvious here.
1) american cars are not built well, have cheap parts, and can make a lot of power easily because the companies who built them were too cheap to tune the engine so they just made it bigger
2)imports are of much better build quality, have slightly more expensive parts, last a lot longer, but take more money to make go faster
i personally would never buy an american car. no not even a viper or anything like that because better cars could be had for the same price. imports handle better, last longer, and are a little more satisfying, for me, to make faster. my VW i have right now would make most american cars around here look pathetic in a straight line, and lets not even get into the twisties. but i have put a lot of money into it and im sure a fully built v8 would put me to shame only in a straight line. but come on i have a 4 cylinder 1.8L 8valve and i can take 95% of the v8's out there? how sad is that.

Camaro's dont look good????!!!!! can you honestly tell me the car seen here:
http://wallpaper.cz28.com/35thcamaross_800.html
does not look good!!?? And thats a stock SS, no mods at all! anyway, whats up with all of this "i can mod my import and smoke your domestic" well guess what, i can mod my domestic and blow the hell out of your import no matter how many mods you put in, if you fully mod a chevy 350 no import can touch it (except MABYE a late 90's supra modded). This is my take on things, if you have a stock camaro (ls1 or lt1) you have almost 3 times the power of a stock civic from the same year and a good car overall. If you have a stock civic, you are hella slow to start with, so you mod it to go as fast as a stock camaro, well the more mods you put on the more you are forcing your engine to go faster than it was origionally designed, which means more engine damage, which means you are rebuilding your engine every few years just to keep up with a STOCK camaro that hasnt changed a thing. I have a stock 98 SS and i havent found one civic on these california streets that can hang! and for all of these little mechanical problems they are talking about, well they are just that, LITTLE, i dont think a broken window motor will completely shut down your car and you have to get it towed home! i havent had barely had any problems with my car, so it isnt like things go out once a week. and gas milage depends solely on the driver, especially with manual, camaro's (93 - 02) came with 6 speed so if your on the freeway doing about 75, just drop it into sixth and the rpms are about 1500-2000 barely using any gas, and i bet less than a 4 or 5 speed civic way up in the 5 and 6000's. dont get me wrong i dont hate civics or any imports, but performace wise, i would not buy one and put thousand of dollars in it just to have it go as fast as a car i could've bought stock for less than what ive spent. as far as a stock commuter car, civic all the way, but for performace get a camaro (especially with t-tops).As for insurace......no comment

i like the look of those camaros too... but face it. they are now a dying breed. not very many people want camaros anymore. their sales have dropped like a rock for years so it is no wonder why they got rid of them. you know I love almost all cars. thats just the way I am and I think there are a lot of other people like that out there too. i'd drive d@mn near anything with 4 wheels. what kind of gets me going is when people get a bug in their @ss because they have this certain car they hate all others. why? come on people... there are always going to be big engine performance cars that are fast right off the bat, and there are always going to be small engine cars that people build up into wild little road killers. thats the breaks, get over your sh!t and live your own life and let other people live theirs.

That Camaro looks like ass. Big lame stickers and hood scoops that were cool in the early 90's? Gimme a break. How much is your insurance on that mullet horse? When you even out the money, imports dominate. Say you have your little SS or whatever for I don't know, $35. A $15k Civic with $20k ($35k total, just like you) in mods will blow that thing away in a straight line and around the cones, and both people spent the same amount of money. You can't argue that so don't even try. The only advantage Camaros have is they sound better with fart pipes.
big_sam_2004

ONCE AGAIN I SAY:
The $20k of mods you put in put more engine damage on a car, i would rather spend $35k on a fast car off of the lot and have an original car that blows everything than spending $15k on a car and modding it $20k and rebuilding my engine every 25000 miles because of the mods. Anyway a $35k camaro is waaay to much, get the facts right dude, i bought my 98 SS brand new with all options for $27k, and even the 02 SS that i posted doesn't go for over 30. prices on camaros, firebirds/trans ams and mustangs(eeew ford!) are very low for the power you get with no mods and you wanna bring price up, so think about it, the F-Body cars have been out of production for 2 years and the cars are rare to find at dealerships, and people want them, so the price goes up, its called supply and demand! if they stopped making civics in 2002, would you find one at a dealer for 15k, i think not! bottom line, for performance, i would rather dive the "tank" camaro than and eggbeater civic. (can a civic even hang with the 4-door 96 impala SS? i think not! and you call the camaro a tank!)

in no way do i think my SS is god, i have gotten my ass handed to me many times (not by a civic) im just defending the camaro side of the thread because the civic guys in here made it seem like the camaro was the worst thing on 4 wheels(ricochet), i have nothin against civics and i dont think my camaro is god, actually ive been looking at the new Si hatchback with the stick in the dash, those are sweet, a guy around the corner has one ( and i owned him at sears point). all im sayin is dont dicourage the guy from gettin a camaro, or any car, because personally, i would be sick of camaros if that was the only car i drove my whole life! and all this civic encouragement is saying in one sentence "only drive a modded civic because imports are better than domestics". im just sticking up for the domestic side of things.

mid 90's Z28s are not bad... the LT1 is a pretty nice motor gotta love the sound. I used to drive a 95 v6 Camaro. must say, the bose stereo was nice, seats were decently comfortable... power windows tend to get slow
good job trying to do much under the hood though!!! there is NO room under there. and I do mean none
does it have to tops? gotta love those! :naughty: just don't spray water directly at them and they don't even leak too bad
the camaro has not been totally bashed here, but what do you expect? you are in the honda forum... what happens in the chevy forum? the same damn thing I am sure

lets quit all of this bashing, like the camaro and civic, ALL CARS have their faults in some way or another, lets just stick to the subject and tell the guy why he should keep his civic or get the camaro, not why he shouldnt keep or get either car.

OKay, one thing to say for the Camero guy. If a Civic with 20K into the motor, it will be fully built. Fully built up, closed deck, new pistions, I mean, EVERYTHING will be redo, and then there's the turbo kit. It will be a propely balanced set-up, and the motor will have been strengthend to handle it. Now I fully realize, the car at that power may not be the most streetable car. But that motor won't just "blow up." Granted, it won't last as long as a stock motor. But you shove a 400HP build 20L motor/turbo into a 2100lbs hatchback. The damn thing will haul ass in a striaght line. That's an insane power/weight ratio there, 5.25:1. And the car is still lightweight, and it will corner great with the suspeinsion set-up put in it. That car would smoke most cars. Now, I know this is NOT most civics, but realize they are out there. I have seen a few before, though none around here. It's all about what do you want. The person in the car above obivously is will to sacrifice something to get the performance he needs. He wants a light-weight car that corners and hauls ass. ANd thats what was built. Not streetable as a daily driver, for sure. But that car would kick the shit out of lots of cars. And a reason why you hav't seen a civic that can take your camero is simple...you live in Cali, right? Most of those are ricers. They care not about true performace, but hitting a trend and looking cool. Like the guy dating the girl across the street. Ricer. Cut off his muffler put on a tip to get that "sound." Lowered it, wheels, some body work. Looks decent, he thinks it sounds fast...sounds like crap. Well, the minivan down the street could take that weak ass thing. But don't confuse that with an enthusiest with a properly built up civic (or any car). A built civic can haul ass, and corner too.

The point was he was saying that a civic with a built engine will blow up. And he implied they are slow. Look...a 400hp civic is NOT SLOW. And at 2100lbs, it will fly. It can handle to boot. I am not crazy jackass, I am sick of assholes coming in here and acting like we are all rice. Look, it built right, a civic kill....period. When built right by someone in the know, they haul ass and the motor WON'T blow itself up. That was my point.

calm down kid. I never said anything about rice. I own a civic also. Im just saying that theres tons of people in here that wont buy domestic.. thats fine.. its your crappy excuses and your site towards a brand of car. if you take reliability out. The camaro is going to hand most cars asses to em stock for stock. Hell I dont even own a domestic car but i have ever bit of respect for em for what they can and cant do.

My point exactly! stock for stock the camaro will give it the business. i said nothing about a fully modded civic being slow, i just said it wouldnt be as fast as the camaro fuly modded (straight line) in cornering, the civics would have the upper hand, but those cars just arent my preference for racing, im 6'5 and need space without removing the back seat, nothing against a civic. and i dont only have it for a racing car, i drive my camaro every day, i dont think i would want to drive a $35000 civic around everywhere because as you said, you drop20 g's in it and its basically a race car, and i dont know how much a race car will help you in a san francisco traffic jam (well neither will an SS trim camaro but you can see why i said that right?). from what the origional poster said, i take it he drives this car around daily, because he wrecked it driving down the street. i dont think he wants a race car either, he said nothing about that, or about building a super civic, so I say if he wants more power compared to what he has now (assuming its not significantly modded) he should get the camaro.

i think someone asked what i have to beat 95% of the cars around here? well basically a rebuilt motor(1.8L 8v) with race ported head, turbo cams, and a lysholm supercharger. you wouldnt know that because its for vw's but im boosting 20psi right now and have yet to lose a race. this motor is no where near being fully built and can produce a lot more power. i dont especially like drag racing and to be honest the car is faster on the freeway because i get no traction what so ever in first and second. im talking staying where you are burnout in first and second. i like the twisties and thats what this car is for. but bring along any mildly modified domestic and ill teach them a thing or two.
yes domestics may have more power potential, but what will win on a road course? not a domestic i guarantee you.

what are you running for times? also hp? Id be wary of the 95 percent comment when you have GSXs with 16gs in them and mustang cobras going through your town . Not mention people turbo charging their S2000s. That 95 percent is very ballsy and no where nears a solid statement. Theres plenty of z28s that put out 12-13 second 1/4 mile times with little mods. in comparison to an average import. I never believe anyone that says you can beat 95 percent of people. Maybe on your street , or in your small city. But when you start making this statement wide known, you got some bullshit crying out the ears..lol.

honestly how many 12-13second cars do you think there are around here? not just here but anywhere? maybe 5-10%of the people willing to race can get those times no matter what people tell you. ive never dynoed or run my car at the track and i dont plan on it anytime soon. but i will tell you i destroyed my friends hatchback that ran a 14.9 at palmdale which is about 14.2 anywhere else. that mean anything to you?
seriously those cars you named could take me but there arent many at all. and those are times assuming they are good drivers. street racing is 80% driver i think and many will agree.

chris26969, and big_sam_2004, I was under the imperrsion from your previous posts that you were saying ALL civics were slow "rice" and couldn't do shit. Sorry I misinterpurted. I get sick of all the people who fail to realize a properly built civic and haul ass in a straight line and kill in the twisties. All I was saying, since I thought you meant all civics where slow, is that a built civic is not slow. I get all sorts of mustang driving teenage punks around here that assume all civics are slow, and I get sick of it. I am 24, and pay for my own car. I get sick of the ignorence, "it's not 5.0, it's slow," you know? That being said, yes, a stock civic will be slaughtered by a Camero, no contest. I was refering to a properly built civic, and saying even if the modded camero took it on a strip, it would own the road course. I realize the Camero will own it stock for stock. Yes, this has gotten off topic. I think we all can agree on the above statement. Sorry if I came across as some punk kid. I am not a punk nor a kid, lol.

I didnt really read your post, this is about the camaro....
OK. AH....camaro, an american car,chevy......... People need to realize, this is a piece of shit. Its slow, you can make a civic run faster times than this thing. Sure you can have a camaro runnin' 11's or w/e, but there is the reliablilty factor, UGH! Same with the fuckin ford mustang. Its not FAST! THEY'RE SHIT! I never see fast camaro's or stangs at tracks or street races, they either get owned or race some other shits, always in high 12's, no one wants em! After buying one, you'll realize what a big mistake you made, and then you'll realize how much money you lost after trying to sell it. NO ONE WANTS THEM.
My cousin, was waking up at 2 in the morning to go to the dealer and look at this peice of shit. HE COULD'NT SLEEP, OVER THIS CAR?? A month later, 25k spent, oh, he don't want it no more. 5 years later its sitting in the garage collecting dust. He can't sell the shit, no one wants it.
You every seen those video's of turbo minivans beating mustangs, camaro's and some others. My point is, people buy em, and think there fast, look at these guys with the vans, 12.65. PHUCK THE CAMARO, PHUCK MUSTANG'S, PHUCK VETTE'S AND VIPERS, KNOW THAT!
Take a look at Paul Smith's 1989 Dodge Caravan. http://www.streetracing.org/cars/profiles/paulsmith/
Or type turbo minivan on google.com
Just saying, anything can be fast, you gotta put work to it, why buy american shits, especially for so much (vipers, vettes).
