Hit a dog.

So yesterday, I went to the bank, deposited some money, and headed down to the bar for a pint. On my way back home at about 6:30 pm, I was driving along in the right hand lane of a 4-lane street (2 lanes each direction). There was a car in the lane next to mine who slowed down, and I had assumed that the driver was planning on turning left, so I drove past them, only to see that they had slowed down to let an old black lab cross the street in from of them.

Fortunately, I wasn't going very fast, and the dog actually ran into the side of my car, but when I pulled off the road and ran back, the dog was lying motionless in the middle of the street, eye's were both open, and wouldn't respond to anything at all... So I jumped on my cell phone and called crime-check which is like a 911 for non-emergencies, and was immediately put on hold. During this time, all the other cars that had stopped when it happened just drove off like nothing ever happened... Anyways, after a few minutes, the dog just jumped up and ran over to the side of the road, so I hung up the phone and I grabbed it by the collar and tried to calm it down. It was shaking pretty bad, and actually shit all over the sidewalk.

The dog appeared to be okay as far as I could tell, but I couldn't just let it go, so I checked the tags on it's collar and the only phone number on it was for Spokanimal Care which I guess is kinda like the humane society. So, I called them, told them what happened, and they said they'd send someone right out.

I always wear a wallet chain attatched to my belt-loop, so I hooked it to the dogs collar and just held onto the wallet like a leash.

So, I stood there in the pouring rain with this poor dog (And I've got a monster head-cold to boot) for the next hour waiting for them to show up, and they never did. I was asking everyone that walked by if they knew whos dog it was, and of course nobody did... (And they all thought it was my dog because of the "leash" I had on him LOL). When nobody showed up, I called again and they said they'd send an officer over immediately, but another half-hour went by and nobody showed....

Finally, I heard someone yelling like they were calling for their dog, and it took a while to figure out where they were, and ended up being a house only about 100 feet away. The guy thanked me, and told me that he'd actually seen me standing on the corner when he came home from work 45 minutes earlier, but didn't recognize that it was his dog LOL. Anyways, I think the dog is fine...

But of course, since no good deed goes unpunished, as I ran back to my car (I had to piss really really really bad), I stepped right into a big pile of shit on the sidewalk... Thanks doggie.

:banghead:  :grinno:

Hey, at least you stopped and took care of the dog, so many people would just drive off and leave the animal in the road.

Good on you for taking care of that silly pooch.

P.S. Clean your shoes.

:iagree: Poor old guy - those darn dogs never know how to look around for traffic well enough.

Wow. That's really cool that you stayed. Especially for so long. I do not know a lot of people that would do that. Glad to hear the dog is okay too.

That sux, but at least the dog is fine. And its good you stopped. I was leaving my uncles house one time and it was pretty late at night and no street lights. All of a sudden i see something run across the street and i slam on my brakes and its too late. I hit a cat. I wasn't happy about it but what the hell am i suppose to do. So i just went home. So people please know where your animals are at all times otherwise you could end up without a pet.

Thank God that the dog was okay. That is great what you did for the dog. Most people wouldn't care if they hit an animal.
