Hello @ all from Newbie-Me...
Couldn´t find anything about the following in the search option:

Are there any aftermarket parts existing for turbos?
Especially I´m interested in big turbos like T51-R or T88 or maybe twins 3540´s or something.
I need them for my RB26DETT-engines, until now i´ve used my old turbos out of the Toyota GTone and Nissan R390.
But if there was an aftermarket producer of these things i´d really like to order them.

Thanks in advance for any help/ tips
Andreas

You can just make them out of scrap plastic parts.

Get yourself a little resin starter kit, its okay ot make copies for your own use.

Either of the suggestions should be good.. although I haven't poured resin before.

Well, WELCOME to AF! Stick around, and display some of your models in our Complete/Progress thread.

Small parts are no sweat , easy 2 part mold , you could pop out a years supply in a day or two. I do a bit of my own, vintage wheels and engine accessories, a few surf boards for dioramas..........
I have some links to a few tutorials at home if you want them I can post em upfor you

That would be great. I'm still trying to look for a resin starter kit locally, if not, I'll get it off the internet.

Uhh... u can use the turbo's on the R34? They're not seen entirely anyways... :screwy:

No, not for my R34, the Tamiya kit is a curbside, so there´s no engine.
Its for my VeilSide R32.
the engine is completed now but lets see, maybe these big guys will fit better (although i can hardly close the bonnet right now :) )
But I´ve ordered 3 more GTR´s from HLJ and will defo need some more detail parts :icon16:

The R34 doesn't come with an engine.

I just made my turbos out of styrene tubing, and they look quite good too I think :)

Yupp-think so too.
Or is there a kit of a R34 existing with a detailed engine??? :disappoin
Maybe some of you specialists can post some pics of self made turbos???
I´d really like to get some new ideas and see how others solve their probs :iceslolan

A suggestion on scratchbuilding turbos. If you've bought some of the late Revell kits you'll notice that the parts trees have round injection pins at the corners. It's a small cylinder with two tubes attached to it tangentially. I've seen it on the '99 Cobra kit, but not on the Acura. With a little filing you've got yourself a compressor. They're a bit large for the turbine side but it's a start, and maybe some Revell kits have smaller ones. They won't look like a real turbo up close (unless you're really patient with them) but if you have something that's going to be covered up with miles of polished tubing it's good enough.

For tight V8 engine compartments where the turbos normally sit higher than the engine they may not look too good. Haven't tried them yet, but it's an idea.

As for my site I have much larger compressors available but I'm waiting on other parts to arrive so I can make a kit. Something you can stick an arm in. Well at least a 1/24 scale arm.

No there isnt man, think before u say something, or ask someone else.....:loser: The only thing that is part of a turbo that is on the car is just the intercooler it comes with.

Charles, check the engine "half" on the chassis of the R34, and there are some representations of the turbine/wastegate... If you want, I can take some pictures.

Well since he said it was "inside" i took my body off and checked. Its not even visible from the chassis side.

Sorry for changing the topic, but ur best bet is too buy those resin ones or make your own by bending styrene or parts tree's with some candel light heat.

Wow, I think Im going to have to order a couple sets of each turbo :iceslolan Will it be easy to modify the Tamiya Supra and R32 manifolds to accept these "aftermarket" turbines???

I don't have either kit, but with some CA glue and a file you can make them fit just about anything! I've got a Tamiya Beetle and Tamiya Fiat Abarth in the works using my stuff, the most work involved is making the exhaust manifolds. For a car already turbo equipped you're almost halfway there.

Go to Hobby Search and bring up the instruction step 3, 4 and 5 in page 1 and 2. The turbo and exhaust manifold, as well as the lower engine block are molded with the chassis as one part.

The tamiya R34 kit is a curbside kit and does NOT come with any engine its just the oil sump and some kind of turbo-looking plastic circles in a line, just good enough to make some turbine housing but NOT useable for any detailed compressor-house turbo styling.
Only kits with engines: Tamiyas old R32kits
Aoshima GTR kits
Aoshima - high power unit R32 kit

"bending styrene or parts tree's with some candel light heat."

candle light? dont be ghetto. i use one of those cheap as black lights that are just light bulbs painted black. they get extremly hot! bends sprue easily.

This is how i made my turbo that is going on my integra. took a one inch sprue, bent it into a loop into the center. then cut it to size. puddy in the holes and sand it round.

I need some confirmation that the aoshima GTR and R32 come with engine detail, is this 100% true? how is the detail compared to tamiya's RB26?

there were 2 major ITR threads each with like 14 pages. one of them had a complete tut on making turbos right in the middle. does anyone know what im talking about? and if u do, can u post the link?

Here you can see the details of the Aoshima R32 GTR VeilSide:
http://www.1999hobbysearch.com/dbimages/user/hobby/itbig/10025386z3.jpg

BEWARE: Not all Aoshima GTR Kits come with an Engine!!!
Mostly the "tuned" versions with aero bonnets etc. do have engines!
Also only Tamiyas R32 Kits have an engine-maybe better detailed but i don´t know exactly-i guess a mixture of both engines would give the best result

bit of an old topic but this caught my eye...would you still happen to have the info and links to those tutorials?

this would be cool i can make copies of some of my parts...seats and all the small misc. parts i end up needing when it comes to building modded cars.
